I was busy yesterday working on a project. I watched the game while doing so, but probably not as intently as normal.

However, I didn't check the board until this morning and I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START! There are thousands of pages and no telling how many posts.

So in a nutshell, what's up with Alabama football???
Is there not 1 QB that will step up?? Is our recruiting that bad on QB's??? What we need is all these complaining ex-players to come to some of the games and roam the sidelines and fire up these players. What is going on? They act like spoiled brats and have no fire in the bellies.....Don't come at me cause you all know this is the truth. Tommy Rees may not be the answer....The Defense saved our butts yesterday....I love Bama and changes need to be made....and soon!!!

I see what you are saying... WHY is the team playing so poorly?

The QB can't find enough time to pass because the entire defense seems to be staring him in the face before he can take 2 steps.
Has the offensive line been given a blocking scheme that is outdated?
Has everyone else's defense discovered how to beat our offensive line?
What exactly has become our weak spot that EVERYONE seems to be able to use against us?

It is VERY confusing to see....
This is NOT Alabama football..... Our team is too good for this type of play.
The scary thing is now it seems to be.

Given the circumstances, I think Ty stepped up yesterday.

This is something that isn’t getting enough attention. I don’t know what’s going on regarding the snaps but a decent one is the exception rather than the norm and it’s throwing things off from the get-go.
Assuming the staff, such as it is, sees this in practice every day. One can only assume that they are reduced to simply shaking their heads and muttering, " He`s all we got. "

Every offensive play starts with a snap. If you use shotgun or pistol and 40% of the snaps are grounders, your QB better be a good shortstop. Then you have about 5% high snaps and the snaps that are on target are like a MLB fastball. If this is the best we can expect, the QB needs to be moved under center. The rest of the O-line is so bad that it would be impossible to evaluate ANY QB.
With all those baseball metaphors, the only logical QB is Lonergan.

Give Simpson 2 starts and the QB position will be fine.

Simpson must not be great in practice, or maybe Milroe is. It’s just hard to believe it has come to this and we’re not even a full year post Bryce Young.

Maybe it’s just the passage of time and my age, but I don’t remember any Saban-coached Bama team looking this bad, except for maybe in his first year.

The combination of ineptitude, lack of focus and weak effort is astounding.

I don’t even know what to think at this point.

And I’m not even upset, I’m just totally confused.

I don't know. We have great pieces. Just do not think we are playing as a team. This is not going to be a season for the faint of heart if you are a Tide fan. Every game is going to be dogfight similar to the way it was before Coach got here. I choose to believe that this group is going to gel at some point and everyone, including the coaches are going to keep this thing on track. Won't be pretty at times but I am still optimistic.

I understand what you’re saying, but it’s not a game or a cheap attempt to make the other guy look bad, and there are several reasons for it.

It’s really easy to say, “Fahr heeum!” Then, when asked who the replacement should be, far too often the answer is, “Anybody would be better than this!”

First, that abdicates responsibility for advocating someone’s firing. Second, it’s simply not true.

You can’t replace a fired coach with “Anybody.” You have to replace him with another person who presumably has a name.

On top of which, as a manager, you need to have at least one backup, preferably more. IOW, you need to have several specific names who (1) represent an upgrade over your current circumstances, and (2) are willing to at least listen to an offer.

The question is also an attempt to take some emotion out of the situation. Often the “Fahr heeum!” comes in frustration (as yesterday). Nobody is happy with yesterday’s performance, and we had some advocacy for firing Rees, Wolford and even questioning Saban.

But when faced with the question of who specifically, not named Anybody, would be an upgrade and would come, the gravity of the decision often starts to sink in.

Recently, I’ve also heard (not on TF), something along the lines of, “I’m a fan, I can say whatever I want.” Which is really just another way of saying, “I have no stinkin' idea what I’m yammering about. I’m just an angry (often drunk) guy venting his spleen.” IOW, "I’m the drunk village idiot howling at the moon. Pay me no mind." I'm happy to accommodate that.

Bottom Line: There is nothing easier than to scream (or type) “Fire him!” in a moment of frustration. But that action has lots of downstream implications, some of which might not be public, and might not be easily predictable.

The question is not a game. It’s not an attempt by a pointy-headed mod to say, “Gotcha!” It’s an attempt to slow down, take a breath or 10, and decide whether you’re really prepared for the consequences, both foreseeable and unforeseeable, of an action that can’t be undone.
i honestly think we are in a situation where the alternatives are probably worse or only nominally better. Overall I think Rees deserves atleast a season or two to see what he can do

I'm having flashbacks to 1997-2006, and that is not an exaggeration. I haven't seen the program in this state since then. Granted, it's not exactly the same as it was back then. We haven't been absolutely debilitated by the NCAA. As conspiracy theorist as this sounds, the NCAA wasn't just trying to sanction Bama, they were trying to end Bama once and for all. I will always believe that. But I digress.

We have gone back into a time before Saban. We aren't 1997, 2000, or 2003 level bad, but I'd put us at about maybe 1998 or 2001. We're about on par with one of those teams. And both had the same record, 7-5. We are a 7-5, MAYBE 8-4 team. I do not have a good feeling going into a home game with Ole Miss. That's REALLY saying something. That's how it was, pre-Saban. Fellow Bama fans have swore to me that we will never have any seasons like we had from the mid 1990's to the mid 2000's as long as Saban is at the helm, even if he's lost a step or two. Ok, sounds plausible. But, after last week and yesterday, I'm very much convinced that we absolutely CAN have seasons like that again, even with Saban at the helm, this being one of them.

He took over a disaster when he arrived. It was a wonder we had enough personell to field a team in 2007. It was THAT awful. But, he doesn't have another rebuild in him. And even still, rebuilding from a regression that happened under his watch would be a lot harder than rebuilding from the ashes of what he inherited when he first arrived, for an endless list of reasons. For starters, we are in a far different time now.

Bottom line, with or without Saban, 8-4, maybe 9-3 could be our ceiling now. It's just where we are in the current time. I'd love to be very wrong about that. After The Bear died and Perkins had taken over, he actually said that Bama fans may have to get used to 9-3 kind of seasons. He should have never said it out loud, but I completely understand it

Which speaks to my point a few posts above.

Not pointing fingers at anybody, but a lot of people wanted BOB fired. Whether he was fired or left on his own, I don't know. But those people got their wish for a new OC. How's that working out?
I still stand behind BoB needed to go. Expecting the quarterback to effectively choose the play based on looking pre snap in college is just bonkers. Imagine these quarterbacks trying to do it.

Compared to the last 15 years, we suck. That's what's wrong.

I said it a week ago, no leadership. i don’t see any players taking command of the team on the sideline. Nobody stands out as a true leader. This group of upperclassmen are mediocre. How can we have year after year of great recruiting classes and not have the talent? It’s got to be there but nothing is meshing it all together and it’s not just the coaches. Players have to take some responsibility.

I think a lot of this is on Saban and his unwillingness to decide who is QB1. He needs to commit to someone and give him a chance to take on the leadership position. It's hard to step up and be a leader when the coaches don't have your back and aren't sure if you should be the starter.
