Wait a second, Thompson went from being the greatest recruiter in the country last year in most of our minds to an evil, backstabbing no nothing recruiter?

He's good...lets face it. Tennessee made a great move in hiring him and it will turn up the heat for Alabama recruiting against him.

I don't agree with some of his tactics. Now he cost us Myles? We could only take some 20-22 kids anyway right? We have 27 commits. So did he really cost us Myles? Eventually, it became a numbers game for us.

Without Myles or Massie we still have a helluva class.
When Bama first hired Coach Saban, he went to work establishing relationships among communities and high school coaches in Alabama. The lions share of the extremely long hours he invested was in the Mobile area.
Lance Thompson was the beneficiary of the relationships Coach Saban established. Make no mistake; recruiting is more about #1 the Head Coach
#2 the institution, very little has to do with the recruiter/position coach.
The prospects for 2010 are noticing the ineptness in Kiffins public demeanor,
and are probably asking themselves, is this an indication of his on field presence?
When a Bumper crop of blue chip recruits with the added benefit of the #1 prospect in the nation being in that area, James Willis will be the beneficiary of all the hard work Coach Saban has put in that area.
UT should have ask themselves who is Lance Thompson and what has he accomplished over the course of his career, rather than to let young Kiffin pay him that kind of money. He was not demoted by coach OLeary at Central Florida for no reason at all and that reason may have resurfaced in Tuscaloosa this year.
Anyway we got a far better position coach in Willis over Thompson and Bama will bring in mostly top 5 classes as long as Coach Saban is our Head Coach.

Ok, Bayou. How many years before we hear "the rest of the story" behind Thompson leaving? I hate it when you do this!!;)

Roll Tide!!

He wanted to get out of town because of a family matter and rocky slop afforded him that opportunity.

I expect them to do well next year in recruiting --With CNS recruiting the last two years, we are finally able to get some depth which will be used against us -- I think it affected Florida this year in the same way. I expect CNS to be extremely selective in who he offers so Mr. Malone must be some WR! Numerically we probably won't be in the top 5 recruitingwise.

We'll see if Kitty coaches as well as in Oakland --I mean he had NFL quality players then and see how well he did with them.

It wasn't just the money......................
That's an understatement.

After some of the things Thompson has done and said since he left for UcheaT, it makes me want to spill the beans on what was the biggest reason he left Alabama for those who do not know the full story behind his departure. But why stoop to Thompson's level and get myself suspended from Tide Fans? :)

The Kiffin's dangled a great deal of money in front of him and I doubt thatthere are very many who would have turned that down. Recruiting is not a game for kiddies and UT did themselves pretty well considering the time in which they had to build a recruiting class.

Many have decried the tactics and not knowing the details, I can only say that kids and parents will catch on pretty quick.

But I have to ask, do you think that CNS used CJW's knowledge, contacts, and information to our advantage once we brought him on staff?
Very few have faulted Lance Thompson for taking the big money and leaving Bama (although his wife wanting him away from xxx xxxxxxxx was a bigger reason), it is what he has said and one SINCE he left Bama. HE was one of the coaches he laughed about Utah beating and he thought the Bama recruits were his "kids".
You haven't heard of Coach Willis bad mouthing his previous HC and claiming he would not get any more of his kids!!!! The aubies consider CJW a traitor for coming to Bama but he hasn't burned the bridges Lance has. You bad mouth a school that you left ON YOUR OWN......suddenly they are not what you have been selling all the kids (and HS coaches) about......it ruins your credibility and makes you a money digging mercenary!!

Maybe there's a very good reason Coach Saban keeps the press away from our assistant coaches? If Thompson is any indication I'd say there was.

What amazes me about Lance Thompson is that he was at Alabama twice and worked for Nick Saban twice, yet he seems to have no problems burning bridges? I just don't understand it.

I remember a few weeks ago all of our rivals said this years recruiting class would fall apart when Thompson and Steele left. UT and aubie knew they were going to have a field day plucking our class a part.:conf2:

I would say Steele was a much bigger loss than Thompson, Steele is the better coach, recruiter and person. The masterful job of ripping the heart out of aubie with the hiring of James Willis gave us a coach that knows every back road in the south and probably locked down Tana Patrick.
