I still think we got the right guy (Coach DeBoer)

needs to figure that out with the staff as well, we got a few that needs to be spending less time hanging around the bars during the middle of the week and more time in the film room
There are a few coaches that need to be gone at the end of the season, Wommack being one. Just because his defensive scheme might work in the SEC doesn’t mean it should be used at Bama. Saban’s defense works great with the right personnel and coaching. Don’t try and fix it if it isn’t broke.

But this defense in its current version is broke. And the offense isn’t far behind.

I think we have to give CKD three years. He needs to clean house and be allowed to bring in his players and see if we can clear up some of the roster issues he inherited.

I think a QB who can run his offense and read the field and distribute the ball as asked and as needed would make us much more effective and consistent. We don't have that now.

While the coaching staff has to improve, I still think we are limited by our roster and learning the new systems. I think we were overly optimistic about rebuilding a team with our limitations.
I'm guilty of that, no doubt. Easy to forget some of these older guys were the ones who pushed Saban over the edge into retirement

Where the land meets the sky
I was reading an article about replacing and evaluating Norvell FSU and the things to consider when firing a coach:

1. The buyout of the Coach.
2. The buyout of the Assistant Coaches.
3 The Hiring of a new Coach
4. The Hiring of 10 Asst. Coaches
5. The Portal - Every player is free to leave and play immediately.
6. Rebranding and remodeling Costs to accommodate a new coach.

So $$$$ at the end of the day need to be weighed.

It's still a transition from CNS to CKD. He has a QB square block and trying to fit it into a circle hole - when it worked, the circle hole was big enough to accommodate the square, and when it didn't (like right now), the circle isn't big enough to let the square in. It's also a transition under Wommack's defense, and like CNS said, they lost 26 players between CNS leaving and CKD arriving, and didn't replace the numbers lost.

CKD is still the best guy for this job. Some of the penalty issues are a continuation from the end of the CNS years - it appears to be something that is in the players themselves, no matter who the coach is, or no matter the effort put in by the coaches to reduce the penalties.

I don't agree with this. You don't fire a guy in his first year which going into it you already know is going to be a year of transition and bumps. That would be embarrassing and honestly, just out right dumb for the university to do.

Saban's defense had become too complicated for the modern-day athlete to learn. Even Kirby knew this and simplified it when he got to UGA. Kirby isn't running what he ran at Alabama.

Not to mention it would create the wrong reputation for working at the University of Alabama, even in an occupational field that has high turnover.

If the defense was playing like they did against Vandy all season I could see firing Wommack at the end of the season. It doesn't look like that will be the case though.

I am seeing pretty much the same team as last season minus the star secondary (those starters are playing either in the NFL or for OSU), minus the star pass rusher (Turner), and a better WR play with Williams.
I was expecting a better running game than last year, but it sucks as last year.
Last year TN & LSU games were at home. This year, they are on the road. Thus, schedule is harder this season.

The biggest problem for this defense: Keion Keely, who was a top-10 player in 2023 class seems to be a bust. He was supposed to replace Anderson / Turner, but it did not happen. Pierre, another 5 star pass rusher, has not done much either. Current bandits are decent, but nowhere near the level of Anderson / Turner.

That said, these problems have nothing to do with coach DeBoer. He has not fixed them, but these problems would’ve been with Saban as well.

I am not asking for him to be fired, but if it is the right call then, yes, you fire him after his first year. You cannot keep a person in that critical a role if it becomes clear that he is failing just because something, something, something.

We’ve all sat here the last few years and laughed at auburn for the bad hires, buyouts, ad firing etc. So now we’re going to fire a coach after one season. That’s out barning the barn right there.
