If OwenField Dreams or any other Sooner fans are lurking, I'd like to get your take..

Re: If OwenField Dreams or any other Sooner fans are lurking, I'd like to get your take..

What do you think our chances are in landing one of the S coaches?

As of my last conversation with my friend which was yesterday morning. I would say 80-90% chance. The only reason why is because of the game left to be played and does playing it and winning it have an emotional effect on our target. He has strong feelings about his players. And if my info is correct then he is only leaving because of the Administration.

John,

As a fellow tuscaloosan, i love your music, man("smoke from a distant fire" is on my I-pod), but if you think for one minute that because SS thinks 'he owes us one' that he would somehow deliver us BS then you need to either hold off on the consumption of alcohol or other illegal substances....;)

I'm not sure what prompted your blazing response but I'm just trying to get a little conversation going here. It was certainly not my intention to insult anyone. I just thought it somewhat germain to the issue that posters would actually read the link before making comments. I didn't say one way or another what I believed or if I believed it at all. Folks sure get uptight her lately. Think a few here need to work out some regular extraction of body fluids with another person of the opposite gender. It's good for arthiritis too.

The past couple of days it has looked like Saban was also a smokescreen to hide the real #1 choice. It also explains Sextons remarks about having their man and someone bigger than SS and NS.Also Shauns remark about a Championship coach!
My best guess is if he changes his mind RR will get the call he is waiting for?

as an OU fan... you guys are nuts. Why would Bob take a side-step? (this happens every year for us OU fans, and every year, Bob says he is very happy. He also has a HUGE bonus coming to him in 08)

Go read up on what happened with Bomar. You will find that Stoops kicked him off the team, not the AD.

And NCAA punishment, is not "looming". Maybe for basketball, but not football.

Good luck in you coaching search, but it was a mistake getting rid of Shula. And a bigger mistake by the AD to not have a hire ready. Cost you in recruiting already.

You couldn't be more wrong....

Not a Sooner fan.....Bama all my life, but if this guy is wrong about Stoops then again it's "Pearl Harbor" in Norman. No one and I mean no one is even talking about this at all!

The previous comments about NCAA seem to be correct as well. BBall may be in trouble but football most likely will not be because OU took corrective actions.

Here's where that's coming from. What's being told, whether true or not, is there were booster's encouraging him not to boot Bomar...which led to frustration.

Side-step as far as tradition, yes. Side-step as far as facilities...huge improvement with the move.

I hope you are right. History with the NCAA says that when boosters start getting involved with players, paying for work not completed, it can spell trouble. Add to that there are specific people who are supposed to keep track of the # of hours worked along with the amount of money said players are paid. That was missed...whether intentionally or not, it was a breakdown.

You couldn't be more wrong...but, I wouldn't and don't expect you to know the reasons he was released. I assure you, going 6-6 was only a small fraction of the reason why.

You don't understand what the AD was doing. Fact is, he's said he wasn't going to say anything publically until it was time. Let's just say this has legs...the right time wouldn't have been until your regular season was concluded.

With such a small number of incoming recruits, the idea it's hurt us already doesn't fit. Made some kids pause? Sure, many have said they are re-opening their options until a coach is announced. Can't say I blame them.

QUOTE]

That booster was the owner of a car lot......the key word WAS. That booster almost got strung up and gutted! He no longer owns the car lot and all other car lots in Norman no longer employee football players. The new owner had to run tv/radio spots to make sure people understood the problem had been removed.

I could be wrong and would be happy with Stoops at Bama but this has to be the longest shot on the board!

But, I GUARANTEE when the new coach is announced, we'll have more top-notch recruits than we will know what to do with...no need to worry there...

Sorry for the confusion, but I was referring to his comments about Shula.

And we disassociated boosters when we told the NCAA what we had in mind as punishment. Did that matter?

If you noticed, I didn't say he was coming, didn't insinuate there was a possibility. All I said was "this is where the story is coming from." I've heard several case-scenario's from people I trust very much; some very, very close to that Athletic Dept. However, you can't find one example on this forum where I've pointed to one guy or another. It's a search that is being conducted "behind the scenes." If I'm able to help keep it there, you damn well better believe I will.

One more thing. While you are focusing on the car-lot, you aren't mentioning the fact that there are people employeed by the Athletic Department to monitor this very things. Where were they?

I have no idea if it could be BS or NS or RR, or some other coach, but I will say this: when I talk to the average fans (not Tidefans posters), they don't have a clue about BS. He is definitely "under the radar" for even Bama fans now. By the way, I'd love to see him wearing Bama Crimson.

I tried that last night, and got my face slapped.

I think the Stoops angle has more potential validity than the Spurrier angle does.

As far as SOS hating Bama I don't believe that. On several occasions he has had very nice things to say about our program, and he also stated that a
strong Bama program is healthy for the SEC. It's time for us to put his cheating accusations in the rearview mirror. Spurrier was fed a lot of BS by none other than Fat Phil (who also was whining to Nutt, Donnan, Tubby, Saban, etc., etc.).

Spurrier was the only one man enough and gentleman enough to call Alabama saying he thought we were cheating.

Fact:

Turning themselves in......like our Athletice Department will do from now on.

Notice I didn't say he wasn't coming but IMHO he is the longest shot on the board. Not sure what prompted your sharp response?

FYI - I happen to work where OU football is talked about all the time. I work for one of the team doctors. Every post I have made is a simple observation no one in Norman has seen smoke, smells smoke or is concerned. Every other time BS has been looked at for another position I've heard something. If this were to happen great......I would be 100% on board!

Again, all I am presenting is how the story is being construed by those in favor of CBS...

Turning themselves in..

Based on NCAA's history, that doesn't work all of the time either. IF, the basketball program is sanctioned, then this problem with Bomar, etc., is addressed, the program in general falls into the "repeat violater" window.

Am I saying that is going to happen? No. All I'm doing is simply repeating how people are "putting together" this story.

Just the facts, man. Just the facts. It wasn't meant to have a "sharp" tone as you've described it.

Am I supposed to feel sorry for you? :) Norman is a nice town...been there a few times, partied, watched practices...

Can't seem to get anything on the tool bars to work so sorry about the format of this reply.

I agree the NCAA could find fault and let the hammer down. They also could find that OU handled the problem properly. Not about to guess on that one. We also know the NCAA's facts aren't always the real facts but the only ones that count.

Yepper someone should feel sorry for me.....none of the Sooner fans do!

Terry, the thing i would like to know is do you think we would at least, through Neinas or whatever headhunter we are using , make an overture to BS?...I realize we probably wouldn't be able to reel him in, but heck why not at least try to get him and see what happens...
