I wonder how many speaking out against Coach Leach are starters and how many are on the third string with Adam?

I don't know all the facts and can't make any type of personal observation based on what I've seen so far...BUT...lol

It seems to me that an athlete, either directly or indirectly was being punished for being injured. I just dont think that's appropriate at all.

The question one would have to ask is "if this was the starting QB, would the same measures have been taken"?

I don't think so.

It sounds to me like the James kid was someone Leach was attempting to "run off". That's not totally unusual in football.

But Leach went way out of bounds with his methods.

I agree with the earlier poster who said that Leach should not have one upped his superiors with the suit filing.

All in all, to this point, I'd have to say the firing was justified. Time will tell. I'm sure other facts will come to light.

This story is still very young. I think we should wait and see what the story is on both sides. Regardless of the size of the shed or room, you cannot lock or "put away" a player against their will. On the otherside, James does sound like a "pot stirrer".
It will be interesting to hear the outcome as the days pass. One thing for sure, we have not heard the whole story. The University of Texas readers have interesting comments I'm sure. I myself have heard strange things about Leach. Never knew if they were true or not. Now I am beginning to wonder....

What are you talking about? I've seen nothing about players going against Leach. As a matter of fact all I've seen are former players coming out in support of Leach. Link me something about players going against him.
This is what I've heard also.

All reports that I've heard are the current and former players support Leach and the decision to fire him is very unpopular among the fans.

Sip, I don't think it was the "being injured" part that peaved Leach off...it was the too cool for school, prima donna attitude that the kid displayed on a daily basis. The kid shows up the day after incurring the injury with designer sunglasses on at practice. There's one of those on every team...and it compounds it greatly when the kid's dad works for ESPN. The kid obviously had a problem with authority...and he called daddy to take care of it for him.

The fact is that he was not "held against his will." He was welcome to leave the equipment building and quit the team any time he wanted.

I still can't figure out exactly what Leach did wrong in this situation...

If my son is healthy, loafing in practice, and not attempting to help the team...then put him in a shed and make him work his butt off until he either quits or changes his attitude.

But if my son has a concussion and you lock him in a shed and won't let him come out you better hope the university not only suspends you but puts you in the witness protection program.

I don't think there's a Dad in the forum who wouldn't agree with this.

I agree with your post.

What I have read is he showed up at practice in street clothes wearing some expensive sunglasses. I don't think it was the price of the sunglasses but the fact he was in street clothes. The walking wounded can at least put on a jersey and walk, ride an exercise bike or do something. The fact he has been punished several other times for not putting forth effort keeps compounding the problem. He also has had to attend extra study more than once for his grades dipping below 2.0. This I read on the TT message boards posted by current students.

My take right now is Craig James has been part of the death of two successful football programs, SMU and now TT. TT didn't get the NCAA death penalty but this will surely be a setback.

I didn't know that! I'll admit, if I'm a coach and a kid does that it would tick me off. But, at the same time, just walk up and say.."Hey Cool Dude, either lose the glasses or get off the field...cause you AINT on this team no more if you don't make the right choice".

I imagine Leach was totally ticked...but he should have used better judgement.

The sad thing is, if this kid wasn't the son of an ESPN analyst, we probably wouldn't have heard a peep.

Thanks for the info though.

BINGO!!!!!! If you go back and look at my post about this from earlier this morning about all the former players (including all-world QB Graham Harrell) and coaches, James's "entitled" and lazy behavior goes back to even before he was on the football team.

Good points mod. There's something about Craig James I've never trusted.
There's just something about his "look". Never been able to figure it out.

It might take a while but read all the pages in these threads a lot has been posted about what adam did, what leach did, what espn did, what other coaches have said, what other players have said, what craig james said, and the conclusions some have jumped to.

I think Leach will get paid, still be fired, TT will lose a good coach, fall back to a cellar dweller in the Big 12 and lose the bowl game, Adam James will have to transfer, his safety might not have been in jeopardy when Leach was isolating him but there are some students and people in Lubbock that want to hurt him now.

The whole thing I don't get is what the big deal is about putting someone with a concussion in a quiet, isolated, dark room. I got a concussion in 1993 and had terrible headaches for over a week. Guess what the doctor told me to do to help with the headaches? A DARK QUIET ROOM! We put aluminum foil over the windows to keep the sunlight out and helped me tremendously.

Bayou asked about the players that commented negatively. I was curious so I did a little digging. Chris Perry(transfer from Miami) has averaged 4.5 tackles a year and is a red shirt sophmore. Taylor Charbonnet is a "special teams leader" with 13 tackles this year.

One thing that really strikes me as odd. Why would TT allow the filming of the rooms in question. They proved to me that things were not as bad as they were portrayed.

I can not help but think that this was a case of a coach removing a distraction from his practices than punishing a player, injured or not.

I'm thinking this will never get to court. Texas Tech will eventually write Leech a check to just go away.
According to reports, Leach is due $400,000 for each year remaining on his contract. FYI, he signed a 5 year extension in February. So, he is due $2 Million. I would take that and laugh all the way to the bank and not worry about the $800K due if he was coach at the end of tomorrow.

All of the players who have come out in support of James are clearly slackers and chumps. The odd thing - that a great team has so many of them. So far, 6 players have come forward supporting him. That makes 7 players who aren't worth their scholarships. How could so many chumps be on the same team led by such a great coach? I mean, Leach is awesome. He wouldn't even allow his players to twitter, so tight is his fist. And forget about their fat girlfriends. He can't have really lost control, could he? Nah, it must be something else. Maybe that is ESPN's fault, too. :conf3:

Leach is incredible. We should hope that he replaces Saban at Bama some day... :cheers2:

It's my understanding that he wasn't being punished at all. James had been diagnosed with a mild concussion--not severe enough to warrant hospitalization. Supposedly, it was a hot day and James was concerned about mixing a concussion with bright sunshine and heat (reasonable, I guess). Leach sent him to the two rooms not as punishment, but because they were dark and cool (as opposed to just dismissing him from practice). In addition, Leach assigned a GA to check on James every 15 minutes or so and to bring him water if needed.

Listening to the ESPNEWS updates on JOX this afternoon, I was amused to hear that no mention was made of Adam James' relation to Craig.
