Gonna be at the Miss. State game, the wife and I have never ate at Dreamland

Is a visit to Dreamland possible/doable with the gameday crowd in town?

Any tips/advise would be appreciated.

I usually stop in at Dreamland before the game if it's like a 6:00 kickoff. I'll go around 2:00. I don't know what the Dreamland crowd is like after a game.

I've been there five or six hours before kickoff when the wait was a couple of hours at least. The week of the MSU game in '01 I went there very shortly before the game and the place was nearly empty. I guess you just have to pick a time and take your chances.

You might want to call in an order on Friday. I'm not sure if they still do this, but it used to be nice to call in the order on Friday, then just pick them up on Saturday. To my knowledge they do not take call in orders on gameday.

There had been only a couple of 11:30 kickoffs in Tuscaloosa while I was a student there. The last was Arkansas last year. You go around an hour or two after the game is over you'll be o.k. Not sure how long you can wait after a game to eat. But an hour or so is what I usually wait.

If you go to the Dreamland in Northport you will have no trouble after the game. I have been there twice this season and walked right in after the game. Enjoy! It is great barbeque. And, if you are not into ribs, their chicken is great also.

Make sure you travel "heavy on the hip" . The ribs come with white bread and you buy everything else separately . If you eat as much as I do , think at least $20 just for yourself . I've never been very impressed with Dreamland . Not overly encouraging am I ? I still don't get what the big deal is , in regards to Dreamland .:conf2:

Dreamland was great before it became famous. Ribs and white bread. Simple and very good if you like the sauce, which I do.

Going before a game can ruin a good day if you don't like long waits.

ncbama touched on this, but if you haven't ever been to Dreamland, his reference might have been easy to miss.

Once upon a time, there was one and only one Dreamland. It was southeast of Tuscaloosa, about a mile to the north off of highway 82, just outside Tuscaloosa, after it ceases to be McFarland Boulevard on the way to Montgomery.

That's no longer true. The Bishop family that founded the restaurant no longer holds a controlling interest, if it has any ownership at all. There are now at least two Dreamlands in Tuscaloosa (maybe more, I don't know). The one ncbama refers to is in Northport.

To get there, head west on University Boulevard, through the main business district in downtown Tuscaloosa. A block past the intersection of University and Greensboro Avenue, you'll come to Lurleen Wallace Boulevard. Turn right onto Lurleen and you'll be on a bridge over the Black Warrior River.

Cross the river, and take the first exit to the right. Go about a half block, and take another right. The Northport Dreamland is about 50 to 100 yards on your left.

And ncbama's right. This is the one to go to on gameday. It's way less crowded, and has exactly the same food as you'll get at the original location.

If your heart is set on the original location, I certainly understand the desire for history. Just understand that you'll wait, you won't deal with the Bishops (they're long gone), and you'll have the same food as you would have in Northport.

Green Top is better. :biggrin2: But it's out of the way for you.

As the others have said, Dreamland is now a chain serving the "college" market. Their business plan is to locate near campuses. The one in Northport or B'ham will give you the same food as the original.
