Is it time for the SEC to court noter dang?

I opened expecting to see some BIG BLUE FONT.

Coach Bryant and every SEC legend we have lost would roll over in the grave!

And, while it would be GREAT for them, they are too proud to lower themselves to our southern traditions.

I'd rather bring Georgia Tech and Tulane back to the SEC than have Notre Dame
The only reason to add a school to the league is if that school brings in more incremental revenue (from added eyeballs) for each existing member than each existing member loses from dilution to the new member's share. That's why SMU had to agree to no ACC share for several years - they bring close to zero incremental eyeballs. If you want to be revenue positive for each existing member in year 1, the list of programs outside the B1G that make sense -- brand strength in at least one of the two major revenue sports, and enough new eyeballs -- is short:
  • ND
  • UNC
  • Duke
  • UVa (perhaps)
  • Arizona or ASU (perhaps)
  • BYU (the US' LDS population is not much smaller Arizona's)
I'm not saying all, or even any, are good SEC fits or would come to terms if approached, but I do think that's the complete list of schools that might meet the financial criteria.

Note:
  • Not Utah. Population is only 20% bigger than Mississippi's and 30% SMALLER than Alabama's, though much faster growing
  • Not Kansas. Population (excluding the Missouri side of Kansas City, which arguably the SEC already gets from Mizzou) is the same as Mississippi's. If you exclude the Kansas side of Kansas City, all that's left is, basically, the population of Nebraska; so, that's a hard no from @81usaf92 ;)

Would still make more sense than Notre Dame

We already have one boujee blue blood in Texas but at least they’re in the south and we already have a midwestern school in Mizzou. ND adds nothing to the SEC.

I don’t see them joining a conference anyway, they want to have their cake and eat it too by being loosely affiliated with a conference and having the NBC deal.
The only reason they even have a loose association with the ACC is basketball and baseball has a requirement of a conference. There are no independent teams allowed. In football they allow it, unless you are a small school moving to FBS. You have to have an invite to a conference before they allow it.

If the discussion is about SEC expansion, I selfishly want to add some combination of NC, Duke, Virginia or Virginia Tech OR even N.C. State.
That would be the only direction the SEC would go in, IMO.

There might be some thought to adding FSU and/or Miami, due to the argument that they would drive viewership of football games and redundant territory is not such a detriment in this era of realignment. Clemson gets some push from this side of the argument as well but one wonders if Swinney has run out steam there and they are about to revert to their historical norm. Even if they do, however, it's still a program that's going to sell out a 80k seat stadium, and create highly rated TV games with the likes of Georgia or Alabama.

But outside of the ACC's top programs, there is nothing left to grab. The SEC is never going outside its general geographic footprint. I see the Big Ten and SEC dividing up the ACC's best and Notre Dame, and the Big 12 will pick up whatever scraps are leftover (think Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse, Boston College). The ACC has fought well to survive realignment going all the way back to the 90s when it picked up FSU. But we are down to the last remaining survivors. No one is leaving the SEC/Big Ten, and the ACC has far more desirable picks for those 2 than the Big 12 does.

While I doubt ND would join the SEC (but never say never; see next paragraph), I'd enthusiastically support it provided ND joined under the terms similar to those for UTw. The Horns got some additional, but still relatively minor, consideration because of the value of their brand to the conference (buyout/wind-down of Longhorn Network; full share on Day 1; premium brand placement). If ND would accept proportional terms, it would be a good deal for the league. A game every few years at South Bend would be fine with me; bonus if it's later in the season; the Grotto at night in the snow is worth it.

As for ND and the B1G, in the current financial environment I would never say they would never do it, but it's difficult to overstate the disdain most ND alums and fans have for that conference. Their collective memory is of a cabal of schools that refused to play ND for the sole reason that ND was Catholic Could that be overcome? Yes. Would it be easy? No.
What considerations did the shorthorns get from the SEC? 🤔

The answer to your question was in the quoted post, but here it is again (emphasis added): "...The Horns got some additional, but still relatively minor, consideration because of the value of their brand to the conference (buyout/wind-down of Longhorn Network; full share on Day 1; premium brand placement)...."

Consider, if you will…

a giant orange pucker-hole located in Austin, Texas which errantly claims superiority over everything within its orbit…meeting an equally, all-consuming golden-clad pucker-hole in South Bend, Indiana…which has aMASSed an equal amount of Ego-MASS whilst avoiding any form of Conferrence…

…meeting within a singular shared space of existence.

Everything existing within the space between the two would cease to exist…being ripped apart from the twin-kinetic forces fighting for SEC (Super-Ego-Control) dominance!!!
All respect, but I’ve love some of whatever you’re on.
