What would really be funny is that he leaves for LSU when that job opens. Then comes to Bama when Saban retires. Talk about a group of people going over the edge.

So he was hired to do a job and he did it rather well. The fact he changed his offensive philosophy before Saban decided he needed to, and the fact Saban trusted him to do it still makes my point. Kiffin deserves credit for the execution, Saban for the decision.

I gladly agree that Kiffin rightfully gets credit for modernizing Bama's offense and CNS has freely acknowledged him. My only point was that Alabama was not "drug" towards or into a modern offense as you said, but that CNS was wanting to modernize the O, thus the Kiffin hire. Just wanted to make that clear.

Im often reminded that Kiffin started a feud with Urban that forced Slive to get involved in it because Urban couldn’t take it.

It depends on what you mean by "drug". I honestly think seeing Nuss getting us in needless ESPN classics in the previous 2 years, and the changing rules of football may have greatly influenced Saban into changing his offense. Gone were the days where 20 points were enough, and Kirby was lost at how to stop these video game offenses (and still is). Kiffin was just the best available name, and Saban went for a guy that could outscore Gus, and was more imaginative than the previous dunder head.

I dunno Kiffin has the type ego needed to follow a Coaching Legend like Coach Saban & that's needed too succeed at a pressure cooker like Alabama..

I really do see your point, however a contract for 8 or so million per year would probably convince him to take the job if it was offered. I once heard him complain about paying tax, alimony, and child support.

I appreciate every minute of what we have in Coach Saban. His combination of skill, dedication, and knowledge might never be surpassed.

Do I think that Kiffen could win here? I do to some degree, but I'm not so sure that we will be building statues of him and/or re-naming the stadium in his honor.

I am not far behind you and not even trying to learn a new language. A few years ago I went on a vacation (remember those?) in Italy. I was suprised how quickly I picked up the language. If I really set my mind to it I probably could learn Italian legitly.

Similar experience - Spent time in Italy about five years ago and was surprised at how quickly I was able to navigate. Now I'm neck deep in Espanol in order to prep for Italian.

I took German in High School because I was lazy. Someone told me that German and English were related languages. And they were, before the Norman conquest in 1066.
Anyway, now I wish I had taken Spanish. If I had it to do again, I think I'd study languages, starting with the Romance languages and ending there unless I wanted to pursue it further.

I took Farsi and Korean in college. Korean may have been the hardest class I have ever taken next to Economics. (I have never been great in math beyond finite).

Haha, I took German in HS as my guidance counselor said it was similar to Russian.

This is a good example as to why you should basically ignore HS guidance counselors...

In retrospect, I wish I had taken Spanish, which is why this old dog is now learning new tricks. Not impossible, but surely would have been easier 30+ years ago.

My Dad made me start with Latin -- 2 years in HS...then 2 more years in college. I took French in HS as well. Latin is the basis for all the Romance languages...later when I had to take Greek and German they were easier...although German is a different animal. If you want a challenge though, try Hebrew. I took 2 semesters in seminary, could read it back then, but still don't understand how God could inspire anyone in that language...LOL.
