I agree on the assistants to an extent. After Pelini left I asked the question if Miles was as good at identifying young assistant coaches as Saban. Of course the typical response from the LSU posters here was that Miles was just as good at everything. Now that may not be entirely true. I'm not sure about Crowton, but I never thought Chavis was bad. Heck his defense was the only bright spot on Fulmer's UT teams.

You are right that Miles has certainly kept the recruiting up, so there has to be another explanation for LSU's decline. Personally I think it's the head guy, not the assistants. I think Miles' "fly by the seat of his pants" gambling methods worked in prior years, but his "luck" has finally turned and he's been bitten by them. To al the LSU posters, I'm not saying he's a bad coach. In fact, I think he is a very good coach; just not an elite one. Thus, with all else being relatively equal he will more often than not fall to an elite coach. But I think there are only a handful of elite coaches out there, and thankfully we have one of them.

Crowton and Chavis are decent coaches, but neither one is likely to be on anyone's short list for head coaching job.

You're right on the last point, too. There aren't many top notch coaches out there, but one of'em prowls our sidelines.

My word...you are old!!! I go back no further than Cholly Mac...I remember when he first came, and I remember the "Chinese Bandits" moniker (step-father was a huge who fan, and liked CM, but wanted him gone because he couldn't beat the Bear...I remember "Help Mac Pack"), but I remember nothing of Dietzel, other than he was there...

Yep. I was at the 1958 UA/LSU game in Ladd Stadium. I was a sophomore. I'm only three weeks from having to amend my sig line to read 70 instead of 69 years ol. TommyMac was at that game too. And, Bayou, on Nick's warning Miles, that would be consistent with the fact that he refused to recruit him...

It seems the LSU fans are calling for Les's hat after the Ole miss game. Most of them point out that LSU has a ton of talent and has probably another 8 win season to show for it. So my question is what do yall think the Hat's future?

Living in New Orleans, and enjoying myself immensely this year, I hear a lot of talk about Les Miles. Most think he gets one more year, but if throws another 8 win season in there he would probably get the boot. He doesn't seem to have a recruiting problem, just a problem in how to handle all the talent. Krymsonman

Here, he supposedly took the blame, but not really. It just says, without quotes, that a GA sent in the spike signal, while the videos clearly show Miles himself gave it. I think this interview just got the doo-doo deeper. (Click on the banner headline - it's not a video.)

Every time a discussion comes up about Miles it always seems to comes back to comparing him to CNS. LSU fans don't like ot hear it, but the truth is Miles is looking more like the joker he was at Okie State and not a big time head coach. Sure his recruiting has been strong to this point, "sucess breeds success", but it had to start somewhere. CNS brought in talent, built LSU into a machine and left. Miles rode CNS' players to a championship and has ridden the wave that created into some good recruiting classes. A couple mediocre seasons and the talent will stop falling over themselves to commit and LSU goes back to where it came from.

First let me say this to the lswho fans who lurk on our board. I have lived in New Orleans since 1993 so for 16 years almost 17 now I have been stationed and/or lived here as I just retired (but I am trying to get out, great time for a recession) anyways I am not shooting from the hip when I criticize this place. I have worked for the OPSO (Orleans Parrish Sheriffs Office) and been through many Hurricanes and whatever else has happened here so I feel I have the right to criticize this place and the way we are treated at Bryant Denny West.
It has gotten worse since Coach Saban got to BAMA and while the real lsu fans are good to talk to the majority that I run into are not capable of holding a reasonable conversation when it comes to CFB. What you call a personal attack is not personal it is from years spent in this place and coaching at the local playgrounds I get first hand evidence that alot of these people have some SERIOUS issues.
My apologies to the lsu fans on here that are reasonable I guess having lived here and been through so much down here it makes me vent on this forum~!~

Wow you are even older than my older brother...I was 5 then; Bama played the who's at Ladd in '58? Wow...I don't know why we didn't go, we lived only about 6 blocks from Ladd, and Mom was a Bama fan, even then.
Sorry about the "old" comment...

I worked for a company out of Houma for 11 years, and spent the better part of 10 after that working for various companies "down the bayou" (you know what I'm talking about, having lived in N.O. for so long). My grandmother was born in N.O., and I can't count the days and nights I have spent there (unfortunately, I don't remember a lot of what transpired in those days and nights, but was told I had a good time, mostly).
I can relate to your comments about a lot of the people there; I actually got fired from one of those companies in '98 about a week after we beat them in BR, and that was the reason (trust me, there was no other; owner was a who grad who hated Bama with a passion).
I do hope you get out; I have absolutely nothing for N.O., and 1 day in that city and I am ready to head east to God's country (fortunately, not far away ).

I don't have many good things to say about those folks. If'n it were me, I wouldn't be letting people know I worked there.
