Is this Tua's team now?

And another reason it has to be Tua...if we don't distribute the ball like Tua can it's gonna affect our receiver recruiting.

Tagovailoa's throws also get to the running backs out in the flat very quickly and usually right on the money. I would sometimes think he had waited too late to get the ball out there but then, boom, it was there.

Lane Kiffin, like him or loathe him, is probably right but not in the literal sense he says it. If Tua hadn't played in this game, not only do we lose, but Tua also doubts if CNS would really give him a chance next year. He might just have pulled the trigger and transferred and sat out next year to play his Jr. and Sr. year somewhere else.

I tend to believe he was probably coming back regardless and if he didn't win the job in the spring or buy next fall he might have gone the route of Blake Barnett and transferred right before the season began.

Good news is, I think we don't have to worry about Tua going anywhere now but back to class in T-town.

I think it is now his to lose. If he can learn to take what the defense gives him and keep turnovers in check then yes. But just as there was a leash with Jalen there will be a leash with Tua. If he gets careless, you will see Jalen again. QBs like Tua drive Nick crazy. I know it looks like a slam dunk at this point but we hit the reset button to some degree in 2018. One would think Nick sees the upside but has to manage the downside risk of a young gunslinger.

Lane's gonna be Lane...
There's always gonna be someone out there to stir the pot. As time passes Lane will either lose interest in trolling us, or his opinions will become ever more irrelevant. I expect us to have perhaps the most explosive offense in Bama history next year with Tua at QB, making Lane's evolution to distant memory that much quicker.

To me the only question is whether Dabol will figure out a way to keep Jalen involved in the offense. If he doesn't, I would expect JH to transfer. My guess is he will still get some quality snaps at QB, though not to the extent that it would be a true dual QB system. For example, I could still see him getting snaps in goal line or fourth and short situations. I doubt he will be moved to RB, since we are already stacked at that position.

That is something I have noticed with him. He leads the runningbacks perfectly and hits them in stride. On average, that's probably a 3-4 yard difference per completion.

I think bigjue24 had a good post on this. Tua is absolutely perfect for Daboll and this offense. I don't think this is a conversation. I hope Hurts can switch positions or be the best backup qb in all of CFB. Injuries happen all the time and he could be called upon soon.

Gunslingers are not afraid to take chances with their throws. They can thread the needle or throw the ball to where they expect the receiver to be, but they throw more interceptions. Just look at Brett Favre. He set all kinds of records, and one of them was for most career interceptions. I think that Jalen is too worried about making mistakes passing the ball. There is not enough of a gunslinger mentality in him. Part of that comes from Coach Saban's coaching philosophy, but a lot of it is just not having the confidence to let it rip. Hurts has been to these QB camps where they teach skills like reading the defense and throwing to the spot where the receiver will be, but he can't make himself put what he learned there into practice and pull the trigger. He has gotten himself into a rut. Whether he can get himself out of it is up to him. Perhaps the best thing Hurts can do is to work with Tua and learn from him. Some people say Hurts has reached his ceiling as a passer. That is only true if he cannot put into practice what he has learned and develop the confidence to become more of a gunslinger. Maybe not as much as Tua, but enough to keep the defenses off balance.

I sure am glad I am NOT the Head Coach and would have to deal with this. TWO great guys. Two mature guys. Two guys that show lots of class. One is 25 - 2 or do we say: 26 - 2? One brought us back from Death Valley Days in a half + OT. One can release the ball a lot quicker than the other and with accuracy. One is a very Powerful runner and can be effective sometimes throwing the ball, sometimes even deep.

If I had to make the decision, I'd have to look closely at Spring Practice and Fall Camp. Maybe both can attend Mannings camp this summer.

UGA was not prepared for Tagovailoa. If he had started, surely halftime adjustments would have been made by Smart and company so maybe Bama would have only ended up scoring 35 total points...
Two things...

1- Had the offense held the ball more in the first half, UGA would have scored less - the D would have been fresher.
2- Film or not, Tua isn't a guy you can game plan for, really - look at what Mayfield did to to UGA. Maybe Bama scores 35, maybe more. But Smart was never great as stopping dual threat guys at Bama, not sure I'd expect he could do it any better against a guy like Tua.

i think it we would have hit the early td to calvin it would have been an entirely different game.

I hate the "Jalen is 26-2". This is a team game it is insulting to our all-world defense to say our QB has such-and-such record as a starter.
There is no more competition at the QB position. It's Tua, and it's not even close. You can't watch Tua's play last night and go back to Jalen. He had his opportunity and made the most of it, but for whatever reason his passing game stalled and perhaps even regressed over the past two seasons. There is no way anyone with a working set of eyes saw what we saw last night and thinks there is any competition to be had at the QB position. Tua is magical.

With the caveat that I firmly do believe this is Tua's team now, I think it's easy to overlook the fact that he does take risks that Saban isn't fond of. Risks had to be taken in this game, they had to, it was the only way Alabama was going to win. But, there are several plays that were almost coin flips in terms of turning into disasters, and while it says a lot to about Tua's abilities that he pulled it off, a quarterback only has so much control. He can't keep a guy from dropping the ball, he can't keep a guy from slipping, he can't guarantee a positive result.

I said to my wife before Tua's interception (mind you after calling for Tua to come in) that "of course he's ten times more likely to throw an interception, some throws Hurts just won't try". I think that sums up the gap in a lot of ways. Tua was willing to take risks that Hurts wouldn't take. That doesn't mean Alabama is undefeated with Tua though (clearly he developed as the season progressed), that doesn't mean Miss. St goes Alabama's way, or Clemson, or FSU. Tua can and will have bad games sooner or later (so does Tom Brady and Drew Brees), but I'm really, really happy that for this game his mojo was on full display.

Tua is now the guy. It's his team, there's no contest. I don't understand why it didn't happen earlier but at this point it doesn't matter because we could not have finished the year any better.

Break out the anointing oil.

Tua is definitely the QB, which could be the best thing that could have happened to Jalen. The pressure is off, and he can become more focused on becoming a better passer. Having Tua around will probably help, too. I am not convinced that Jalen has reached his ceiling as a QB. I believe that there is still plenty of room for improvement, if he sets his mind to it.

Tua is a better runner than Jalen is a passer. Personally, I'd rather there be no designed runs for him when we have a stable of RB's.
