Okay, all politcs aside - try to read this with an open mind and tell me what yall think. I know it would never happen but this would help the capstone indefinately.

Here's an idea, why don't we just serve alcohol in the stadium. Not only will it boost revenue for the University but it will also aide in people smuggling liquor in the stands with is totally counter-productive for the school. If we allow the sale of beer at the stadium to adults, our night games would make Death Valley sound like a Nursing home during a re-run of "Murder She Wrote."

This would not only increase the revenue for the athletic department but would decrease the amount of students and adults getting tickets for possesssion of alcohol in the stadium. Crime would go down, Profits would go up.

I know that this notion would be shot down in ten seconds because we are in the heart of the bible belt but eventually we conservatives need to get the big picture. People are going to drink in the stadium if we like it or not. Let's get excited and kill two birds with one stone.

Well, in the first place...

It's not allowed in the SEC at all. Second, CPB was the one who cracked down on alcohol (while I was in school) and I think it was a good move - and I'm not a teetotaler...

Hey Sig,

This would take action from the state legislature which I doubt would ever be passed and if it ever was I doubt it would discourage people from bringing it in themselves ( to keep from having to pay stadium prices) which would be expensive trust me!!

You can't have Alcohol at anything regualted by the ncaa but the bowls have corporate name but only after the conference championships. I do not know why but that is why you can't drink at the sec championship in the ATL but you can at the Peach Bowl.

Its a ncaa thang..

Thats another distinguishing factor that seperates the college from the NFL game, and in a good way. I dont miss a Bama home game, but I just went to my first NFL game last year in Atlanta.

Now I know its the falcons, and I know they were playing the saints, but the crowd was obnoxious, to the point of almost unruly and unsafe, and it seemed like this was mostly generated by alcohol sales..(or crack, but I digress). I think it should be every kids dream to play football for the Universtiy of Alabama(or whatever else is the school of choice), and I think the gameday atmosphere on college campuses should be kid friendly. I say leave the alcohol sales to the NFL.

Back in the days when the Yellow Jackets were in the SEC, thrown whisky bottles were a problem whenever Bama visited Grant Field. The SEC does not need to return to those bad ole days.

Seems like I remember being at one of our games at Ole Miss in the late 80's/early 90's and someone from their student section threw a whiskey bottle that hit one of the cameramen on the field.

That ring a bell? Of course, this was during the time that I was sewing all of my wild oats and might have been so inebriated that I dreamt this!!!

Wasn't this also the reason Coach Bryant wore a helmet onto the field at one of the GaTech games?

In a perfect world

Well if not legalize alcohol at the games maybe they could ease up on thorough frisks around the midsection and ankles. I really hate to throw away a good flask of Bourbon. lol

This came up a year or two ago and apparently it's a tradition for a lot of people to drink bourbon during a game. Although I enjoy a glass of bourbon as much as anyone (I never ruin it by mixing it with Coke or anything else) I don't understand the connection. I don't enjoy the game any less when I've had nothing to drink.
We don't need several thousand intoxicated people on our campus and we certainly don't need them getting into cars to drive home. If people would drink responsibly it wouldn't be a problem but if that were to happen on such a large scale, it would be a first.
For the students who don't have kids to worry about, there is no problem finding a party after the games, worst case you can go to the strip and drink all you want.

I think the University is kidding itself if it thinks people aren't drinking at the game. The University may as well make money by selling drinks to fans. And as for people leaving the game intoxicated, that is a real concern. But look at the MLB, they quit serving after the 7th inning. At the Bama games the University could just stop serving drinks after the 3rd quarter. Not to mention of course that if you sit in one of the boxes, you can have all the liquor you want. I do not understand why it is ok to drink in one part of the stadium, but not in the rest. And while I'm on the subject, I think Tuscaloosa county needs to stop this silly rule about not serving alchol on Sunday. If people want to go to church and not drink on Sunday, then they can do that. But for them to say they want everyone else to not drink on Sunday too is just wrong.

This is not a U of A policy. This is an NCAA rule.

And these are called "Blue Sunday" laws, popular pretty much since statehood. Jefferson County, in which you and I reside, also has a "Blue" law in place that we can't buy alcohol on Sunday until after 12:00. But if you drive across the Cahaba River, into Shelby County, well you cant buy alcohol at all on Sunday there either. But Im sure your local congressman would love to here from you. Give ole Jabo a call!!

It will never happen. If someone really needs a drink to watch the Tide go to a sports bar! And lest we forget in this litigous society we live in, imagine the Tide getting sued because someone got into an accident following the game and was legally drunk!! That's certainly not what we need.

as much as i love beer

i do NOT want to see alcohol served in the stadium.

the status quo is that only the most dedicated drinkers get to have booze during the game. those who are willing to smuggle and risk being kicked out of the stadium can have liquor. that's kinda the way it should be. if you make it where every tom, dick, and harry can get beer, you will have a ton more fights, puking, and craziness because a lot of people who don't normally drink and can't control themselves while drinking will be absolutely smashed around normal family folks who are there to watch the TIDE.

i side with the family unit on this one.... although i, myself, have been known to smuggLe in a Beam traveler here and there.

the thing is... you'll never know that i've been drinking because i don't act like an idiot when i drink.

It's all a moot point..

we're arguing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. It's an SEC rule and it ain't gonna happen, so this is just a waste of bandwidth. OTOH, we have a new server and much more bandwidth, so, if it turns you on - argue away... :)

hey BP

I was a little surprised to see someone else from Vestavia Hills on here, small world. What is your real name and what part of Vestavia do you reside in? I am Charles Kessler and live close to the high school.

I've been going to games for almost twenty years, and I have always carried my flask. I've never been frisked or questioned about carrying alcohol into the stadium. But something tells me if we make it legal we would have a bigger problem on our hands.

wASTed aWAy agAiN iN tUscALoOSa?

Wait that's Margaritaville! My not so secret advise for those like me who want a buzzzzz during the game, is to get started early. Maybe an hour or two depending upon your tolerance level, (You have to be a pro to know).

Wild Turkey on the rocks is my downfall. So do as I do, get as lubricated as you can and walk. Drink all the water you can while in the stadium. Cheer like hell and leave after a big Bama win sober.

You probably won't remember much of the first and second quarters, but hopefully the final outcome will be one you can relate to your grand kids!

:biga2: ROLL TIDE ROLL :biga2:
