If the fg drive is 'counted'(in which he threw no completions and took a 7 yard sack), he had 6 total possessions. 5 if you don't count the last drive of the first half. Not 4.
And on 2 of his 3 scoring drives, he neither completed a single pass nor had a single positive carry. He did nothing- no read option, no play action, no nothing that could have been seen as threatening the defense in a way the box score wouldn't show.......he was essentially not part of those drives. Giving him credit for any of the offensive success for 2/3 of those drives is a real stretch.
I went back and reviewed the whole game now play by play(just because I was curious due to how popular this thread is), and I gave both Buchner and Simpson an D-. (only a D- because neither turned it over)
I'm usually a generous grader, but that was the worst half of qb play I've seen in a long time from both. Buchner's issue of course was that he was wildly inaccurate and having lots of throws hit the dirt. Simpson, otoh, just looked like he didn't even belong out there. I suspect in some theoretical world where every play involves just one maximum read and a perfectly clean pocket(like on one of his two plus plays all game where he hit the long pass), he may be the best option of the 3. But that's not realistic- that one successful play he did have is just not an opportunity he will likely get against a credible opponent. When live bullets are out there and pass rushers are around him and pocket is changing and recievers are covered........he's not ready and that game made it obvious. We know Milroe is not a decent qb, but right now Simpson is not a realistic option.
Finally I looked over the national reaction to today's news and virtually every single outlet anticipated it as being predictable.
I don't have *any* confidence in Milroe Saturday, but we are 7 pt favorites and I'll be pulling for him. If for some reason Milroe can't go tommorrow and Buchner or Simpson were named the starter instead, that line would go down some.
