Maybe with him gone and Ro on the team they can get the Raiders turned around. I'm not sold on Campbell though, but we will see.

The Raiders would have been better last year with a better QB (like most NFL teams). Jason Campbell is years ahead of Russell. I think the Raiders will be better this year.

I keep hearing "biggest bust" of all time. While to a certain extent I agree, what about some of these others perceived busts?

David Carr (QB from Fresno State)
Ryan Leaf (QB from Wazzu)
Mike Williams (WR from USC)

I guess what JaMarcus has on these guys was that he was drafted numero uno.

Russell got canned quicker than Ryan Leaf, David Carr, Alex Smith, etc... He's unquestionably the biggest bust ever.

And you cannot compare him to Mike Williams. There is no comparing the #1 overall pick on a QB to the #10 overall pick on a WR. Besides, look at the money. Williams was guaranteed 10 million. Russell was guaranteed 42 million.

Again, biggest bust ever.

No QB taken #1 has been released by the team that drafted him as early as JR EVER. I call that a BUST. Maybe a change of scenery will be good for him. The question will be where. Micheal Wilbon suggested maybe New England takes him and lets him develop more behind Brady.

I think one more club will take him, hoping to turn it around with him. If he doesn't make progress there, then I think he will have run out his string...

Your spot on! NFL executives make me scratch my head all to often.
I agree with the executives and owners as well. Take the situation with CNS when he was with Miami. CNS wanted free agent Drew Brees but Wayne what's his name signed Culpepper, who has been a bust in my opinion wherever he's been. Cryin' out loud, I could have called that one. The Cowboys owner fired Jimmy Johnson, or the other way around, and hired that numbskull from Oklahoma, Switzer. Sheer genius.......NOT !
JR, from what I understand, is pretty much a functional illiterate like Vince Young. Guys that can't get through a Marvel Comic Book or a Denny's menu without looking at the pictures don't have a snowball's chance at QB at the NFL level.

Russell is a glaring example of the fallacy of throwing ridiculous amounts of money at top draft choices. Here's a kid that is obviously suffering from a poor work ethic and it's showing. If you throw a guaranteed 30-40 million at a kid, you kill or at least seriously dampen any incentive he might have to succeed. Russell evidently takes little or no pride in what he does. A very expensive mistake by Al Davis and the Raiders.

It's just plain ridiculous that zeroes like Russell are making many times over what dedicated, proven, hard working veterans are making in the NFL. They need a serious rookie salary cap.

Interesting comment in an article in the local paper. It says Al Davis was the driving force behind drafting JR, and that HC Lane Kiffin opposed the selection. Looks like Kiffin was right.

Now I'll wash my typing fingers.
