Well he says playing time. He only has one tackle this year, so I'm inclined to believe him. It hurts depth, but other than that, not a huge deal imo
I don’t know why he’s not getting PT. His position coach is the exact same. I realize there’s a philosophical difference in the 4 man front DT and a 3 man front NG, but he came in as a big un. Thought he could be like Mt Cody.
Also, seems like Saban used to brag him up every week for his perseverance in getting his weight down while keeping up his stength and push. Believe there was also a kudo for him doing backflips at 6-5, 320 - though maybe I'm wrong. I'd guess - guess - he made his decision after watching the 40 front shredding and slipshod interior tackling vs. Vandy without getting what he felt should've been an opportunity to change things. A little more understandable if so.
Would players be doing this if you voluntarily take the redshirt after 4 games then you have to sit out the first 4 of the next year if you transfer? I bet that would put quite the damper on such things. Injuries or some kind of forced redshirt from the coaching staff are a different beast.
Not a massive loss really but kind of sad one for someone we once thought could be big time here
