JK is the first punter ever that I've considered buying a jersey for. I might be sportin' a #15 next year. Plus, if we win #16 I might be able to get a good deal. :)

I don't know about the fair game thing, but the refs indicated they thought the defender got a part of the ball, so either way it didn't matter.
pretty sure they didnt get the ball.... The defender kinda hit his legs from behind... Went past JK a little bit

So, if a QB fumbles the snap, recovers it, then goes back to pass and does so -- can you hit him after the pass as long as the play hasn't been whistled dead? Because to me, that's a dangerous precedent to set....
Quarterbacks have been getting hit after their passes have been released since the invention of the forward pass.

The actual rule:

Roughing or Running Into Kicker or Holder
9-1-16-a
2014 PenaltyA.R.Info
When it is obvious that a scrimmage kick will be made, no opponent shall run into or rough the kicker or the holder of a place kick (A.R. 9-1-16-I, III and VI).

Roughing is a live-ball personal foul that endangers the kicker or holder.

Running into the kicker or holder is a live-ball foul that occurs when the kicker or holder is displaced from his kicking or holding position but is not roughed (A.R. 9-1-16-II). Note:

Running into the kicker carries a five-yard penalty at the previous spot.

Incidental contact with a kicker or holder is not a foul.

The kicker’s protection under this rule ends (a)when he has had a reasonable time to regain his balance (A.R. 9-1-16-IV); or (b)when he carries the ball outside the tackle box (Rule 2-34) before kicking.

When a defensive player’s contact against the kicker or holder is caused by an opponent’s block (legal or illegal), there is no foul for running into or roughing.

A player who makes contact with the kicker or holder after touching the kick is not charged with running into or roughing the kicker.

When a player other than one who blocks a scrimmage kick runs into or roughs the kicker or holder, it is a foul.

When in question whether the foul is running into or roughing, the foul is roughing.
Unfortunately, I'm operating off of memory as I cannot find video of it at the moment. I would figure "running" instead of "roughing" only because, thanks to the fumbled snap, there's no way for him to not know for certain (until committed) that Scott wasn't going to try and run with it. Still, should have been a penalty according to the rules.

JK Scott is a game changer. That was an awesome job of snagging the ball and getting the punt away.

We should have gotten roughing the kicker too. But it worked out ok :)
I don't think you can get a roughing call after the ball was fumbled. What a great punter he has been in his freshman year. Can you imagine how far he'll be able to punt the ball once he gets a bit of weight training.

That's what several of us thought, too, but see skrayper77's post above. Looks like we were all remembering something else and that perhaps running into the kicker could have been called.

I was in the end zone behind the play and Referee immediately signaled deflected ball. I have not seen replay but from my seat it was a disaster about to happen...So...bad snap, hard rush, partially blocked punt for 33 yards and 0 return. Incredible job by JK.

Unless there's a punter I don't about that is having a better year he should be a shoe in for the Ray Guy award.

well the finalist are Rehkow, Hackett, and scott. They all average 47 yards, but Rehkow is 47.8 while hackett and scott are both 47. Hackett is leading in total yards punted then its followed by Scott and then rehkow (in the order of the finalist). IDK how they choose the Ray Guy specifically, but I hope Scott brings home Bama's first.
