Joel Klatt blasts Aubarn and says it is a bad job

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

He ain't wrong.

There's so much wrong with their whole Athletic Department that the Barn might not crack the Top 10 in most desirable football head-coaching jobs once this season's coaching carousel comes to a complete stop.

Of the currently open positions, I'd rank these six above the Barn:
  • LSU
  • Florida
  • State Penn
  • Arkansas (Only major school in the State, still an SEC school, decent history, plenty of money - path to winning is easier than at the Barn)
  • UCLA (BigTen image and monies, plenty of money, decent history, plenty of local talent, easier path to winning than at the Barn)
  • Virginia Tech (Plenty of local talent, decent money behind the program, plenty of conference cupcakes, much easier path to winning than at the Barn)

Then you have to look at what jobs might come open if any of the schools currently looking for coaches make big-name hires...
  • If Steve Sarkisian goes somewhere else, I'd place Texas over the Barn.
  • If Lane Kiffin goes somewhere else, I'd place Ole Miss over the Barn.
  • If Matt Rhule goes somewhere else, I'd place Nebraska over the Barn.
  • If Dabo Swinney goes somewhere else, I'd place Clempson over the Barn.
  • If Dan Lanning goes somewhere else, I'd place Oregon over the Barn.
  • If Mike Norvell goes somewhere else, I'd place FSU over the Barn.
  • If Rhett Lashley goes somewhere else, I'd place SMU over the Barn. This is a new college football world and SMU has deep enough pockets to become an actual power again.
...and those are just names that have been mentioned as possibilities of going somewhere else or being high on wishlists.

Not that I anticipate many coaches at the programs on this next list to be going anywhere this year, but I'd place all of these programs above the Barn:
  • Alabama
  • Georgia
  • Ohio State
  • Notre Dame
  • Michigan
  • Oklahoma
  • USC
  • Tennessee
  • Texas A&M
  • Miami
  • Utah

That's 25 programs I'd look at - right now and for the near future - as being more desirable than the Barn. They've got the potential to be a Top-10 offering, overall, but not until they get a lot of their own mess cleaned up. The problem is that much of that mess is what makes the Barn, the Barn - so I don't really ever see it getting cleaned up...

Auburn just can't get out of their own way.
They worry about Bama so much that it makes them absolutely insane and hence make knee jerk decisions on coaches.
If they would ever just hire a decent coach and keep him for a few seasons and build stability within that program they would be ok. Wouldn't be Bama but would be ok.
Here's to hope that they keep the insanity train rolling.

Texas A&M did this. I hope Aub doesn't.

This is what Gus did. You knew what to expect year in and out. Had some good years along with mediocre ones.
