I saw this article on my home page this morning. I'm a JSU grad, and I always want to see the alma mater succeed. However, JSU has gone through enough off-the-field problems as it is, so adding a player -- even a player as talented as Perrilloux -- who will simply be another distraction and a drain on the school's APR just seems foolish.

Of course, the football department doesn't exactly have the best reputation when it comes to signing positive role models. Heck, they signed Montae Pitts two years ago, and that's after he got kicked out of the Barn. And we all know the stringent standards to which the Barn holds its players accountable.

What do y'all think?

There aren't a whole lot of distractions in Jacksonville. Maybe thats exactly what Perriloux needs. Maybe he just needs to get away from the River Boats and To-Go Cups.

There were a whole lot of distractions walking around on campus when I went to school there back before time began. :)

Play with fire...get burned.

Mess with the bull...ya get the horns.

They have to ask themselves if the risk is worth the rewards.

I'm all for second chances but in this case it looks like another opportunity might be like a 15th chance. I'm sure CLM gave RP several chances to do the right thing and he chose not to. To me that would answer the risk/reward question I would have as an institution.

I just left Jacksonville two years ago, and unless they've seriously cleaned up things (they haven't), there are some serious distractions, even for a small town. Crowe and Co. have had a number of folks involved or arrested in various incidents ranging from drugs to counterfeiting. I konw that Coach/AD Jim Fuller is a Bama man, but they really need to do something about cleaning that program up.

Didn't they just announce yesterday in the APR report that JSU lost 7 football scholarships?

To see them serious about RP,just shows where this program is at.I remember when I was in school I had friends go to Jax St and they all told stories that would make a hooker blush.

I can tell you this. Ryan Perrilloux was in Huntsville yesterday getting a physical. He told Dr. Greco that he was headed to A&M to play football....

Finish the sentence...
"Ryan Perrilloux is the biggest bust since ___________."
I mean, he is a bigger bust than Fred Rouse. At least Fred Rouse played D-I ball, and I don't think Rouse was as highly rated as Perrilloux. Perrilloux was rated as the top player in the country that year by several lists.
Or, do you think Rouse was a bigger bust?

I would have to go with Rouse as the bigger bust. Perrilloux did play D-I ball, and probably could find another D-I team to play with if he wanted to sit out a year. Rouse was never close to being the MVP of anything, Perrilloux was the MVP of the SECCG. Perrilloux and Rouse were interchangeable #1 and #2 recruits in 2005 amongst the various recruiting services. Regardless, they are both screw-ups and should be considered busts following the hype.

You are right. I know Perrilloux never really did anything aside from create a bunch of controversy, but still, he at least does have an SEC Championship Game MVP to his credit.

Rouse, on the other hand, never did crap at FSU, and then transferred to UTEP, where he was really a disappointment. And now he's apparently transferring to Florida A&M.

Both are huge busts, but I think Mr. Rouse has the upper hand in this one.

As a JSU graduate, I am NOT proud that they would consider Perrilloux.
If Perrilloux can get far enough away from his thug brother and the posse of miscreants he grew up with and still hangs out with, he might finally grow up and be influenced by things more important than his street cred. His whole problem has been immaturity, lack of parental supervision, and being at the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people.

I'm not sure if J-State is far enough away from his homies. Idaho State or New Hampshire might be better for both Perrilloux and for JSU.

That can be a powerful influence in a young man's life, and almost impossible to be rid of, unless, as you've stated, he can go somewhere & get a clean start WITHOUT the corrupting influences he has at home. I wish him good luck, & it has nothing to do with Football.........

Believe it or not its alot of schools looking at him, its reported here in Jackson, MS he has already visited the Jackson State University campus. Lord knows thats all Jackson needs, its plenty of distractions and plenty
more street gangs running around here. The sad thing is the guy is talented.
