Re: ***JUCO OL James Carpenter faxed in his LOI today- will join Tide in January***

Is anyone sure where he will play. He has the size to play tackle, but I've heard from several places that he will play guard, which makes sense with Marlon Davis leaving.

And I'm sure Saban realizes he cannot keep bringing in JUCO players. But we just have some depth problems, and JUCO players can normally come in and compete immediately, as with Cody.
Carpenter made a comment about the coaches telling him they'd like him to be Andre's replacement at LT, now whether that's where he winds up is another question. He can play either tackle or guard so a lot will depend on what other players (both returning and other incoming recruits) do in regards to where he winds up IMO. I would think it's a pretty good bet that he'll be a starter somewhere along the line next year, otherwise I doubt he would have ever been offered.

Carpenter should find a starting role somewhere on the OL. I think position is still up in the air.

Carpenter has signed an LOI and he is at UA. He will not practice but he will attend team meetings and observe practices.

Junior college lineman James Carpenter signs with Alabama
Carpenter was named his team's offensive MVP after his sophomore season at Coffeyville. While he will be at UA for bowl practice, he is not expected to be allowed by NCAA rules to travel to New Orleans with the team.

The Crimson Tide did not recruit Carpenter out of Hephzibah High. He signed in 2007 with Iowa State as the first recruiting class for coach Gene Chizik, who recently took over at Auburn.

Carpenter committed last month to Alabama.
