Re: Julio and Lester's visit to OK

I've seen on titles of subscribed sites that they were talking about their OU visit, can someone update us on what they said?

http://blog.al.com/segrest/2008/01/foleys_jones_compares_oklahoma.html

"The visit was all right," Jones told Rivals.com. "When
I talked to Coach Bob Stoops, he just told me to do what I
wanted to do (in picking a college)."

Jones compared the Oklahoma visit to his Alabama visit.

It also says Lester said he is still a firm Alabama commitment - good news!!

Julio doesn't sound like he was blown away - but he probably wouldn't say anything different if he had been blown away by the visit...so who knows.

hopefully if they are somewhat equal - home field advantage wins it for us :)

To clarify.....the recent "get" @ LB simply filled a much needed spot that reduced our openings & apparently, these spots are being held for JJ & Lester but possibly a couple of others in Texas.

By the way, I understand that the player host for the two was our talented young TE, Jermaine Gresham from Ardmore.

No I am not from Alabama.....born & raised in Ok & a citizen of Texas for 44 of my 66 years. I have always been a fan of the Tide. I have tried to make sense of my feelings and it always seems to come down to the amazing similarities in the two programs.. legendary coaches, their colors, tradition, national championships, the wishbone, & on & on & on.

I must tell you that when you all walked on Owen Field in the first of the recent home/home I had tears in my eyes. I made the trip to Tuscaloosa the next year & was equally as emotional.I started posting over here when that series began & have been visiting ever since.

I am a traditionalist when it comes to college football. OU & Alabama are at least in the top 5 all-time in teams in the hierarchy of the sport we all love. You can add USC & ND to that list. #5 may be debatable....TOSU, Nebraska, Michigan.....I don't know. All I know is, we're right up there, where we're supposed to be.

Here's hoping we play again soon & it's for all the marbles. The way we've sucked in bowl games, your a lock for an NC in that game ha!
Owen, I always appreciate your posts. It's refreshing for a rival poster to provide insights as to what is going on at their program instead of perceived insights about what is going on in ours! Thanks for the info on OU recruiting.

Bravo!
I agree 1000% !!!
Some other rival posters could definitely learn from Owen.

Again, quoting it is wrong...but just paraphrasing about it isn't...IMHO.
We have always allowed paraphrasing. Posting the short and sweet version of a premium article is just fine with me. :) I will even allow quoting a line from someone but adding a link to premium articles is still much appreciated.

Well there you have it, Admin has spoken. I don't make the rules I just try to enforce them. ;)

I personally will not link any premium articles and I myself will stay away from any direct quotes from premium articles. I like paraphrasing small bits much better. I also would rather see the prospects profile linked rather than a single story but do as you want in accordance with the above Admin post and the TideFans.com rules. I like the profile linked because it has all the stories including the one being paraphrased and even some old free content for non-subscribers.

Back to the subject of this post...

I am glad to hear that Robert Lester is firmly committed to Alabama. That and Julio's comments on OU have me very hopeful that Julio will choose Bama on NSD.

I agree. It doesn't seem like JJ was "blown away" by OU.
I like the fact that he compare OU to Alabama, and not the other way around. To me, it sounded like he has Alabama clearly at the top of his list, and he is waiting to see if OU could blown him away with the visit. Which they didn't.

A school like OU has to blow away a kid on a visit, to get him to leave his comfort zone (Alabama to Oklahoma), and seeing as they didn't, I really love our chances now.

FWIW....Finebaum is interviewing Julio's high school coach right now on his program, and the coach said that his "final four" are Alabama, Oklahoma, FSU, and UF, and that HE thinks there's a good chance that JJ has already made a decision and will announce live on ESPN on NSD.

For all intense purposes, it's really a battle between Alabama and OU. FSU hasn't been in it for a LONG time, and Florida, Jones just doesn't seem interested in having to become a full game decoy for Tebow and Habin. IMO, it's down to OU and Alabama, with Alabama the likely destination.

I think it is pretty much a "nobrainer" when your HOME SCHOOL is the standard by which you judge other schools.
Right now Bama has more to offer, where he can accomplish MUCH more, than any school on his list. This class is the foundation for GREAT things at Bama and all these kids will be household names like "Joe Willie", "Snake", "LeRoy", "Biscuit", etc., etc.!!!!

I think you're right. It's down to us and OU.

Does anyone know if Saban has an in house visit scheduled with JJ?

This sounds right. Ergo, he announces next week that he's waiting on the South Alabama program.

OFD,

Great post and my thoughts exactly as you related the similarities between our two programs. Like you, I was raised and spent my early years in Oklahoma--and even though I eventually returned to my roots here in God's country(Alabama), I gained an appreciation for Sooner football that will never leave me.
Regardless of where JJ goes, I agree this has been fun and exciting to follow. As a true college football junkie like yourself, this recruiting thing has kind of turned into a "second season" for me and a way to bridge the gap between january and the beginning of fall camp in august. It's become a cottage industry in itself thanks probably to guys like you and me...lol. The good thing is that both of our schools have secured solid recruiting classes, and, with the our respective coaches not going anywhere soon, I think this sets both programs up for great success in the upcoming years. I'm not a big fan of the BCS as it is currently configured, but I DO think that there is a very good chance our two teams will meet in the near future to decide a NC....let's hope so at least;)
