While being interviewed during the Hawaii Bowl, Hawaii Coach June Jones was talking about the teams Hawaii had visited during the last few years including BAMA and USC. He went on to say "if you want to see "big time" then go to Alabama." Nice of him to say that, and since it was live the folks at espn didn't have time to edit it out.

Heard that. Always liked Hawaii. Now I will certainly be pulling for them against Georgia. I met several Hawaii fans the night before the game. All very cool, all amazed by the stadium, all thought they were going to beat us...

I love the State of Hawaii, but the homecookin' by officials there is unbelievable. You have to beat the officials as well as the Warriors to win a game there.

jerry glanville made similiar comments earlier this year in an interview on 680 the fan ., gushing about the stadium, dressing rooms, campus, etc. saying it helped his program letting his players see how the other half lived! guess they were impressed with their visit in 2006!

Not me. Make no mistake; I'm no GA fan either, but game day in HI is like 80s vintage game day in Miami, only without the modicum of class in the stands. I do like June, and did hear his comment. But just for that one day, I lean toward go dogs, sic'em.

Feelings aside, I think this could be one of the more intriguing bowl games. Interesting to watch.

Whatever. You can find classless fans at any school. Aloha stadium has had a reputation of POOR security and the fans are SICK of it! Make no mistake about it the Hawaii fans do NOT like or condone the unruly fans it has been a point of discussion this year. Aloha Stadium (independent of the University) has made a commitment to step up security and to encourage a more friendly environment. This has been a MAJOR point of emphasis this year.

Go Warriors.

Good to hear. And thanks for inadvertently confirming my point. "made a commitment to step up security and encourage a more friendly environment. This has been a MAJOR point of emphasis..." So they've recognized what I stated, then.

At any rate, as I say, I'm glad to hear that they're ramping up security & seeking to improve the stadium environment. I think there are those--myself included--who would enjoy the Warrior game environment & program if the stands were cleaned up a bit in terms of behavior. So I'm glad progress is being made. May it continue. Peace!

I was at a Bama vs. UH game, the last game fRan coached for Alabama in Aloha Stadium. I jumped up and motioned first down and one obviously drunken Kanaka actually came down and got in my face, yelling. I had been yelling Roll Tide and apparently it upset him and the first down signal was the last straw. lol

We were sitting in the middle of a whole lot of Hawaii fans. Fortunately I was with some locals myself. My wife and in-laws from Maui told da braddda, no problems eh and he left peacefully. I hate to think what would have happened if I had shown him an attitude. After the game we tailgaited with a whole bunch of friendly locals. I actually was coerced into trading my prized Crimson Bama ballcap for a straw hat. I did it in the spirit of Aloha. ;)

UGA fans, Hawaii fans, or Mafia hitmen

Ain't any of them meaner and tougher than Phenix City boys in the 50's and 60s.
Still don't wander over there on a weekend night...

The first year we played UH there, I remember that the ridiculous mascot gave one of our linemen, AE, I think, a forearm shiver as our team went past. Ephraim just gave him the kind of puzzled look you might give a pesky bug and went on past. I guess the painted devil thought he'd intimidated the whole team. If they want to clean things up, I'd suggest they start by getting rid of him...

???? What do Phenix City boys in the 50's have to do with UGA fans, Hawai'i fans or the Mafia? What good are Phenix City boys in the 50's doing now??

I agree!

Not a chance of that for me.

This is very true, been there twice (two different sports) and it is almost "in your face" officiating and if you say anything the fans are on you quick and they stay on you the whole game.

Whatever. I didn't go to Hawaii so I don't know about some of the thugs that show up for games there, but the true Hawaii fans who traveled to Tuscalloosa were nothing but class. I can't say the same thing about some of the scum that slinked their way out of Bryant Denny after the Georgia game this year.

Probably true of all fans. But, when we were in Hawaii the father of one of our softball players got into a fistfight with one of their fans because of some "unbelievably" nasty personal comments being screamed at his daughter, not just one fan but many were involved in this This went on the whole tournament no matter which team played them. In my experience only LSU has come close to Hawaii in making insulting, personal, comments.

:BigA: RTR!

The UH fans in Tuscaloosa were great. Obviously the ones that travel are much better than the locals. I've heard a lot of what Bamaball said when you're at a Hawaii sporting event. But at the same time, I heard a lot of Bama fans had an awesome time with the UH fans in Hawaii
