Looks like Justin has to make a choice between the two sports. His skills on the diamond have scouts coming to Lafayette County to check this guy out. I hope he sees that Alabama needs him in the secondary and his future may be brighter with us, an education and an NFL career. I just hope those big dollars baseball throws around doesn't take this guy away.

Justin Woodall to Choose

A left handed pitcher with a 94 MPH fastball can get some big money in the right situation. Could get interesting!

Its really hard to say but if he can throw 94 with any kind of control I would say he's got a very good chance of being in somebody's bullpen in the near future (2-3 years). Left handed pitching is a hot commodity right now. As much as I'd like to see him at bama it may be in his best interest to give baseball a go for a few years.

Well as RTO said, his first love is football so hopefully that wins out. Plus, just being able to throw 94mph doesn't necassarily mean you'd be a good pitcher, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

i have an example of baseball picks here in tullahoma, tn. young man playing in the state baseball finals. 6ft 3inches, over 200 pounds. picked number one pick in the draft by tampa bay, he could throw over 94 miles per hour, and had a slider and curve ball. had 4 no hitters last year. played first base as well hit over 400 during the season. he turned down one million, decided to play for his dad at jr college, to get one more year of experience. his dad player major league as well. he did not play football. he was disappointed, in their offer, not the initial signing bonus, but, the overall incentives. if woodall, is a better football player than baseball, he would get more money in football up front. the minor league system is not a money making experience. difficult choice for a young man, but, if he is not the best in the state, could get buried in the minors. this young man had over 20 scouts to every game he pitched his senior year.

Justin wants to play both football and baseball at the Capstone. However, his HS coach has contacted BAMA several times, and the Tide baseball coach will not return their phone calls. If he's throwing 94, he just started last week. He was throwing 89-91. I teach school with his baseball coach's father.

My selfish side would say take the scholarship and with CMS' permission play both sports. If I were advising him I would say, if the dollars are right go with the baseball contract, MLB almost always has a program to pay the player's college education if they do not make it in baseball.

And...

how many of those baseball retreads really make it in NCAA FB, after a few years off and living the "good life" of minor league. I can think of maybe two...

i don't believe any of the baseball talk regarding any kid coming out of high school. talk to any kid who either played in hs or college (especially college) and they will tell you how close they were to making it to the "show." in no other sport is the perceived line between amatuer and pro so thin. i just hope whatever decision this kid makes is the right one.

It'd be tough to play football and baseball with these 2 positions. A pitcher is a finesse position requiring fine ball control and movement. A safety is meant to run quickly and deliver a solid hit. I'm not sure you can develop those 2 things together with these differing sports. It's not like the other 2 baseball/football players like Deion Sanders and (should i say it?) Bo Jackson, who were great hitters and base runners. He might be better off choosing one or the other.
