I can't imagine a better place to coach than Annapolis. His players are of the highest standard. They don't smoke spice and fall out of the 4th floor of hotels. He's probably well paid.

A lot of people don't know when to be satisfied with enough. This may or may not be the case for Niumatalolo, but by the look on his face Saturday after the game, I think he's going to miss the Naval Academy if he leaves.

Probably will incorporate some of the offense into his new offense. I would imagine he probably will do multiple offense style. That could work well for him at BYU.
That's the best case scenario if he takes the BYU job, but, I'm leery when it comes to hiring HC's that runs a run heavy wishbone attack like him & Johnson has at Navy..I remember Johnson saying his offense at Georgia Tech wouldn't be as run heavy offense & would have more passing in it than his Navy offenses..That never happened & if anything his offense has ran the ball even more at Georgia Tech..It's hard to recruit a QB that can pass the ball effectively cause that offense needs a QB that's willing to take a pounding running the wishbone..

I have no idea religion was the main issue with them hiring a HC, makes sense though, still BYU will go through a couple rough seasons while going through the transition..Hope they give him the time he'll need to transition to his rush heavy wishbone offense..HC's must win now or be on the hotseat in 2-3yrs if you don't..
I read recently that is was a requirement of the position that the HC be a practicing Mormon with standing in the Temple. Limits their options, outside of him there is Kyle Wittingham (coaches a rival in a P5 conference, not coming) and Andy Reid also not coming. Bronco left so I imagine they will open the vault to get Ken N

Exactly..That would be like Navy, Air Force or Army requiring their HC to have served in the armed forces in some capacity..It limits your hiring capabilities to a minimum in quality HC's..

From coachingsearch.com:
BYU: The Capital Gazette reports that Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo’s triple-option offense may be a sticking point for BYU, with reporter Bill Wagner saying that BYU wants Niumatalolo, but not his offense.
You would think 10-2 at a service academy would be a good selling point, as well as being in the midst of 14 game win streak vs. your biggest rival.

That makes sense & was wondering if BYU was ready to go Triple Option on offense..When Paul Johnson's name was kinda popular with a faction of Bama Fans about him coming to Bama, he said his offense wasn't exclusive to the Triple Option, but, when he became Georgia Tech's HC his offense has actually ran the ball that much more out of the Triple Option..I was leery that Niumatalolo would be willing to run a completely different style offense at BYU..

Given his devout Mormonism, you can't blame the guy for listening. But I also think he made the right decision.

If (big two letters) it's true that BYU wanted him, but not his offense, that's a red flag on at least two fronts: first, you don't meddle with a coach's philosophy or his choice of staff. Don't like the philosophy? That's OK. Just look somewhere else. Second, it's meddling of the highest order. If they'll do that while they're courting you, what's it going to be like after you're married?

Surely BYU wouldn't be stupid enough to do that. If they were, they deserve what they get.

The official "Never mind, he's staying" article

"It was a long and agonizing two days, probably the hardest two days of my life, but the Naval Academy has been my life for the last 18 years and I love it here," Niumatalolo said. "I love the kids that go to school here and the people I work with. BYU was something I need to look into because of my faith and the opportunity to coach my two sons, but ultimately I decided to stay at the Naval Academy because this is the best place for me and my family. We are at peace with the decision."

It seem to have worked out well. BYU did not want the wishbone (neither do I) and Ken did not want to give it up.
