And the LB transfer from Jawja won't have to worry that, even though his co-DC didn't come home to Mama, he's about to be absorbed into a 'Bama defense whose recent rep was playing softer than whale stuff.
I got to work on my freaking reading comprehension..I was halfway through writing a scathing rebuttal to your post when I reread what you wrote and realised you weren’t being a Debbie downer on the hire. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm not trying to insinuate that everything is instantly doom and gloom and that we are about to just straight drop to 8-4 right away.
Bama was 2 plays away from being 8-4 in 2022. 2 plays from being 12-0 as well. But the margin for error has shrunk. Bama could have lost 5 games each of the past 2 years with just a play in each game going a different way. But they didn't and Bama only lost 2 games each of the past 2 years and "you are what your record says you are" BUT going 8-4 in 2023 is not something that's completely off the table. So is going 12-0, but 12-0 has always been on the table, potentially going 8-4 is a recent development.

our stranglehold on CFB is slipping away.
I'm not sure Alabama has ever had a "stranglehold on CFB." Six championships between 2009 and 2020, inclusive, is remarkable but it's not like we haven't been in the mix the last two years or haven't had relative down periods during the run. Indeed, we've had two other periods (2013-2014 and 2018-2019) without titles.

Well I've slept on it (barely)...

I just don't like it.

Is it an upgrade over Golding? I mean yes of course it is.... Golding was one of the worst DC's I've ever seen in my life.

Is it anywhere close to the level of hire we needed? No

Rees and Steele > Bob and Golding - This is true

Monken and Schumann/Muschamp > Rees and Steele - This is also true

That's the problem.

These aren't the level of hires that were needed to wrestle the SEC and NCAA Crowns away from UGA.

Time is ticking on CNS's tenure and the SEC landscape has changed.

UGA is King because of their Coaching Staff from top to bottom and Tenn and LSU are on the rise.

Being Top 15 on Offense and Defense isn't enough. You gotta be Top 5 Elite on one side at least if not both sides.

I'm thinking at this point everyone completely mis-read CNS's body language when Pollack was talking trash 3 feet away because these are not Aggressive or Responsive hires against was UGA is doing.

NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Maybe.

Or Steel could be a place-holder while waiting for Pruitt. Or someone equally as exciting.

Or perhaps Steele channels Saban unlike anyone before him and we see some of the most ferocious defense we've ever seen at Bama this fall...

Poor-mouthing it to the extent you are is a bit dramatic and overly emotional.

That's absolutely right. But Georgia, who I think most of us agree is rightly eligible to claim that they're the current King of the Hill, was one injured wide receiver in 2021 and one errant field goal in 2022 from still looking fondly on Herschel Walker's 1981 championship as their most recent.

Fair enough.

I've said my peace and I'm not going to keep harping on it.

I'll just hope that I'm completely wrong ( I'm wrong often anyway) and that everything works out.

I haven't because Schumann should be all Bama.

He went to school here and graduated from here and cut his teeth in coaching under CNS

I mean WHY wouldn't he want to come 'Home'?

Leonhard might have his reasons but I'm not sure what they are because Alabama is step up from Wisconsin without a doubt. Would he rather just sit at home for $1 Million? I mean maybe I guess but it seems like missing out on a huge opportunity.

It could all also be that no one that is Elite and can call their shot wants to work for CNS which is kind of sad.

Maybe it's true that we can only attract Rehab projects and Retreads that NEED a job to get their careers back on track.

It's frustrating because our stranglehold on CFB is slipping away.
Schumann did graduate from here but, he is "Kirby's guy" He and Kirby have a very close relationship. Sometimes that supersedes where you went to school. Kirby gives Schumann a ton of freedom within the defense as well. He was going to do whatever he had to do to keep him there. He was Kirby's grad asst. at Bama.

There is major talk that Leonard is coveted for a few NFL DC jobs. I know we view Alabama as the mecca of football, however, with the climate of CFB, I would 1,000,000% rather coach in the NFL right now. You could actually see your family for more than one week out of the year.

Also, the Monken/Schumann combo was mentioned earlier, Monken is all but gone to the NFL as well. So, UGA will be hiring a new OC.

I am happier than a pig in mud. Steele will not have an uphill learning curve for the SEC and every coach on the defensive staff will have something to learn from him. I can say that I am confident that the defense will not be constantly gapped to the outside, Tennessee will not have receivers running dowfield uncovered without immediate adjustments being made, when a blitz is called it will be based on the expectation that theoffensive line will be outnumbered and the defensive team will not be constantly confused about their particular assignment.
This x100! If these coordinators get us back to solid fundamental football I think we’ll be just fine. I think the majority of our problems can be corrected simply by the players on both sides of the ball being confident in their reads and responsibilities. Teams with poor fundamentals play undisciplined, they play soft, commit stupid penalties, make dumb decisions in crucial moments, miss blocks, run wrong routes, leave receivers uncovered and can’t consistently make big plays to win ball games. We’ve seen this behavior get consistently worse over the past few years now. I’m personally going to throw out all their previous stats, they don’t matter here anyway, and say I’m excited to see these coordinators and coach saban get us back to dominating college football.

Dubose was on his way out the door. He had accepted a coaching position with the Tampa Bay Bucs. It was only after people “blew up” the phones and fax machines of Andrew Sorensen and Bob Bockrath that Dubose got the interview and offered the job. I don’t remember what the “national” perception was at time, but I do recall the ground swell of vocal fan support being responsible for getting him the position.
A classic case of “be careful what you ask for because you just may get it”.
I never really thought he was head coaching material...............great DC, but we all saw how the latter turned out

in any case it is what it is.................we shall see how it goes

When has Saban EVER made a homerun hire at C C (OC/DC)v, except for maybe Pruitt's return? Never - not one other coach was a homerun hire when made: Applewhite, McElwain, Nussmeier, Kiffin, Daboll, Locksley, Sarkisian, O'Brien, Steele, Smart, Lupoi/Golding. The only one close to it was Pruitt coming from UGA.

The Rees and Steele hires likely presage a more physical and tough mentality returning to the program. IMO, mental, psychological and physical toughness was the far more important "issue" with the program than the shortcomings of both Cs combined. The "anxiety" felt by the players prior to UT was sickening and falls on the coaches, especially CNS. So addressing that softness is a big deal, IMO.

As far as UGA's "elite" coaching. It doesn't exist IMO. They have good coaches and GREAT players, like Alabama but they are now tougher and meaner than Alabama. That is the only difference. CNS is the most aware public persona I can remember. He always knows exactly what is going on. Don't know why he stuck with Golding as long as he did, but now the indecision and soft play that characterized his "advanced" schematics should disappear.

Golding was not helped by the frequent finesse O that has often characterized Alabama since Kiffin. The only concerns now are both the OL and DL. The DL "seems" to have the talent and the ILBs should improve greatly with Steele. Idk, is Roach a problem? Not sure about the OL's talent, Wolford seems OK.

Well the Jawga folks are saying they’ll back up the Brinks truck to keep him…to the tune of $3 million/yr. Of course that just “talking” too so take that for what it is worth.
