While "the drive" is obviously the one everyone will remember, it was the defensive stand just before that that was key. Auburn with the ball to start on Bama's 44 and 9 1/2 minutes left. The defense sent them backwards and set the stage for McElroy's brilliance.

Kudos to the defense for recovering from the Auburn's trickery and shutting them down with the game in the balance. RTR!

Before I ever read your post I was thinking about that exact drive. We couldn't afford to give up any points and the D came up big.

We sacked them 3 times for -32 yards. They also had 3 sacks, but for only -7 yards.

After that 1st quarter, the defense finally settled down and played lights out, kudos for staying the course and finishing.

I agree. After the barns big pass play early in the 3rd, our defense seemed to settle in nicely. I think they held the barn to like 57 yds after that.

Also remember, we left 10 points on the board earlier where we were in the redzone and didn't execute:

I'm not criticizing the players on these at all, just pointing out that although it seemed BAMA struggled in this game, and we did struggle early against the barns smoke-n-mirror offense, once again poor execution kept it from being a more solid win on BAMA's side. I don't remember the barn ever getting back in scoring range after that early 3rd qtr pass play.

In fact, the only time they scored "in the red zone" against us is when the ref called Woodall for that stupid personal foul penalty when he tossed the ball. They didn't really drive it on us, they scored on big plays outside the red zone. But credit their coaching staff, they gave their guys a chance to win.
But the defense did come up huge right before "the drive". I was chanting at the tv, "just stop them here".
