Kiffin's future... (Going to FAU, Staying Through CFP)

Re: Any word on Kiffin's interview with UH? (Houston will sign Applewhite)

That is kinda what I figured. It is better for the athletes too. I feel like college specialists are woefully under-coached because they don't get specialized position coaches.

Re: Any word on Kiffin's interview with UH? (Houston will sign Applewhite)

He's actually referenced the need before for a dedicated kicking coach. After the last several years, I'd be surprised if that's not the direction we go.

Goodness, I'd find a good one and pay them $1m/year.

Re: Any word on Kiffin's interview with UH? (Houston will sign Applewhite)

Honestly, I think the the LSU talk really poisoned the well for his HC prospects. Administrators probably had "their people" snooping around Tuscaloosa bit. A lateral move to an in-conference rival - while you have the literal setup: true freshman star QB, most of the skill guys and OL returning, etc - is frankly odd and raises red flags to anyone involved in trying to hire him.

Lane may want to ignore Coach O's calls because he may have just screwed him.

Just my opinion and nothing else on the subject...I think Houston seen Kiffin as another short term hire on his way to a bigger time school in a couple year like Tom Herman. Kiffen has no ties to Houston or the state of Texas and if he had success there he would be most likely sought after by bigger name programs in a couple years and decided not to go down that route again.

Hiring Applewhite with ties to the state of Texas and not likely to be in the running for that job anytime soon may have made better sense to them in the long run over Kiffin. I may be wrong but I don't think Kiffin settles for a lateral move to another SEC school, LSU.

What about his pro offensive coordinator prospects??

Re: Any word on Kiffin's interview with UH? (Houston will sign Applewhite)

I do think the pros would be a better move for him if it's an OC position. The NCAA not snooping around, and alot less concern about personal stuff as long as it doesn't affect on field performance, and it hasn't seemed to in my eyes. I wish him well anywhere he goes outside of LSU. I can't wish that crew well crossing the street.

Houston had its future sealed as far as the type of coach they could attract when the Big 12 snubbed expansion. Frankly, I think that league is on life support. I also think these schools know all about the Freshwater Chronicles. These ADs talk and no school wants to get blindsided by a major problem when it can be totally avoided by going a different direction.

Re: Kiffin's future...

I'm concerned about the folks who "don't care" as long as rules aren't being broken. What about trust? Would you allow a person to represent you, your team, and the Capstone if that person had shredded with total disregard the trust between you and him? Just asking. CNS cares. This ain't a freaking joke. Like Earle, I was really surprised that Kiffin got another season. I'll be floored if he's renewed for a third because now he has an out and he'll take it if a team won't have him.

Think about Petrino after Arkansas 2.0. He couldn't even get interviewed at most schools and none in the SEC. He got a shot at UL only due to a close personal relationship with the AD. To me this is similar.

The HC is the face of most universities these days and it requires maturity, responsibility, and a respect for that role as an ambassador for the institution. One or more of those boxes have been found lacking with our OC.

In two or three years we'll be asking what was all the hoopla about The Houston Cougars. Major Applewhite will settle in as a medioicre coach at a mediocre school and Kiffin, well Kiffin will be Kiffin, coaching at a big school that has one agenda. Score bunches of points and WIN.

I don't think you will find the majority of the folks that 'don't care' in Tuscaloosa but not to say there aren't folks like that somewhere out there.

Re: Kiffin's future...

I just want to be sure he isn't already starting to 'check out' and give game prep a half-hearted effort. If he has one foot out the door already (no matter if it's his choice or Coach Saban's) then this is what I am most worried about.

Me too. I said as much during the 1st quarter against UF. Luckily it appeared he hasn't checked out...yet...

Re: Kiffin's future...

It looks like from what I have read that Charlie Strong is going to be the USF coach with a 5 year deal... so what is left for Kiffin other than LSU? I would like him to stay at Bama as long as his behavior is acceptable but don't want him to go to our rival!

Temple is still open I think. Not saying it's likely, just saying. Is the FAU position still open?

If you believe mr "Les Miles will be the coach at Michigan" herbstreit then FAU and Kiffin couldn't agree on a deal on Friday

It's easy to knock a guy when he says something that turns out wrong. However, many have said he was correct, but his mistake was making the comment hours before Les coaches in the SECCG.

Did he ever say what school CLK was in talks with Friday night?

Re: Kiffin's future...

Saw a picture of coach Kiffin and coach Cochran yesterday with a recruit from Tanner. Maybe he leaves, maybe not, but yesterday Kiffin was decked out in Bama gear recruiting for Bama.
...because he's still employed at Alabama.

Re: Kiffin's future...

Why is he leaving? Is that a done deal? Is it his decision or someone else's? Is is possible he gets another contract to stay?
