This thread has had more titles than Valerie Harper's old sitcom.

Re: Kiffin's future...

Well, I was hoping for his sake that he would get the Houston or USF gig, with greater chances of success. FAU will be a lot of work, but they are still right in the middle of all that Florida talent.

I would not be surprised if he took this job instead of the LSU OC job out of respect for Coach Saban. Frankly, it would have been a slap in the face to go there after all Coach did for him. I hope he's able to fix whatever issues he's got going on, and do well at FAU. I'll pull for the Owls while he's there.

Glad to see this option worked out for him. My wife is from Fort Lauderdale and attended FAU for two years. The money won't be great by major college football standards but culturally he will fit in much better down there and he really has an opportunity to build a program basically from scratch.

Re: Kiffin's future...

LSU board already in meltdown - they've lost two QB commits while waiting for their OC, who is now going to coach at FAU, and now they have to compete with Bama for an OC...
Probably not pleased that Dylan Moses shut his crootin' down and signed an aid letter with us this weekend too.

Re: Kiffin's future...

Definitely not a career suicide for Kiffin. It's a great way for Kiffin to show what he can do with a program, and I think if he can show what he can do for next two years, he will have better opportunities. Now, I wonder because he will be making 600k, is this something going on between Kiffin and Sexton or Kiffin did this on his own?

I must admit to not being aware of most of the finer detail, there's just too many better options when it comes to googling Bama football, but it would be very nice and and I would like to think there's at least a little truth in what you suggest.

It's a good opportunity for other AD's at big time programs to see what he does with a little before they entrust him with a lot. He ought to be thanking his lucky stars he got this opportunity.

Personally, I think Kiffin will do a bang-up(no pun intended) job with the Owls and that eventually Houston will regret not hiring him.

Re: Kiffin's future...

I think a lot of talent in Florida will be intrigued to play for a well known coach such as Kiffin. He might surprise us all there, especially after having time learning under the master Saban!! Good luck coach Kiffin!!

Re: Kiffin's future...

There is no real reason FAU cannot be an upper-tier Conference USA program. Great location, nice facilities, fertile recruiting backyard, decent budget, etc. If Coach Kiffin builds a solid foundation there and doesn't take risky shortcuts or personal indulgences, there's no reason why he shouldn't be able to take the next step up the ladder in a couple of years or so. Once it became clear he wasn't going to get a the keys to a Power 5 program without putting the lessons learned from Coach Saban to the test in a Group of 5 program, I would think FAU would be about as good a proving ground as any.

I wish him well. I looked it up and we do not have them scheduled. They are in C-USA, so they will be playing UAB at some point.

Re: Kiffin's future...

You mean he didn't get fired like has been predicted repeatedly? He got a Head Coaching job? He is progressing in his career?
No, he was actually fired last February. Then, after appeal, was given a one year extension, expiring in February, when his present contract would have run out. That's the reality...
