assume the following:
- this staff stays intact for the next 5 years (length of CMS contract)
- we continue to recruit well,
- we don't have any more abnormal injury years,
- we have no more excuses...

At the end of this 5 year period:
- how many total games will we have won?
- how many SEC championships will we have won?
- National Titles?
- bowl victories?
- how many times do we beat the barn?
- the vols?
- Lsu?

What do you think?

My thoughts on your questions...

At the end of this 5 year period:
- how many total games will we have won? 50 (Don't see us losing more than 2 games in any year for quite some time)
- how many SEC championships will we have won? 3
- National Titles? 1
- bowl victories? 5
- how many times do we beat the barn? 4
- the vols? 5 (and Phatimus gets fired after the 3 consecutive loss!)
- Lsu? 4 (This may be the last year that they'll beat us for a while (if they do)!

Total wins? 40-50. Still some rebuilding to do depth wise. No radical injury years will help, though.

SEC titles? 1-3. I expect to rule the West, though, when the depth is up to par.

NCs? No way to predict. You'd think Bob Stoops has won more than 1 at Oklahoma, but that's all he has. They've played for it 3 times, though.

Bowl victories? 5. Gotta get some distance between us and USC on the all time record.

Beat the barn? 3-5. Either we'll dominate them, or Tubby proves he is one of the SEC's best coaches and the rivalry becomes very even.

Beat Tennessee? 5. It's time to dominate that rivalry again.

LSU? 3-5. I'm not sold on Les Miles. This is kinda like Auburn. We'll either dominate, or it'll be even.

I'm sold on CMS and this staff, though. I'm sold on their recruiting ability, and coaching ability. I feel CMS will be able to continue to learn and adapt.

yeah I'm kinda seeing it the same way...
I think we should easily average 8 wins a year from this point forward...
I see us in a bowl game every year from this point forward...
I see us winning the majority of bowl games we play...
I see us getting the barn, vols, and lsu tigers back under control...
I see us winning at least 1 SEC title in the next 5 years, maybe 2...
National Titles are extremely hard to win (look at the barn, they go 13-0 and can't win one, hahahaha)...I'm not sure we can get one of these in the next 5 years...with some lucky bounces we may...

One thing for sure the next 5 years will reveal a lot to us all...either we step up and start to dominate once again or 'I don't even want to consider the alternative'...

IMO, the jury is still out on Shula's coaching abilities. He has been handed a thin squad with great talent in places, but faced terrible injuries at every key point in each of his first two seasons. In other words, I have no better idea today how good we can be under Shula that I did when he was hired.

That having been said, he is a class act and a great recruiter - both of which are very important right now. Perhaps more important than an ability to coach this team to a great victory.

He will rebuild the program, of that I am certain. I am certain of that because programs like ours are built on a solid recruiting foundation. He is pouring that foundation as we speak. He just may not be the right man to take us to the next level once that project has been completed. Only time will tell, and this project (and Shula's abilities) must be evaluated as we reach each individual milestone...

If Shula is here for another 5 years and our staff stays the same...

I expect to reach the SECCG twice and win it AT LEAST once.

I would say win it twice but the SEC is becoming so damn hard....it's never easy.

I agree that Shula's coaching abilities are still unproven. But if we can win an SECC under Dumbose, then I have to think that even Homer Simpson could average 7-8 wins a season once we've got the effects of probation fully behind us. I see the coming season as an 8-win affair (I'm assuming that Croyle probably won't stay healthy for a full season, and we still don't have enough depth, especially on the offensive and defensive lines). After this year we'll start to have the depth that we need to challenge for the SECC every year. How well we do then will depend mainly on how good a coach Shula is, which you and I agree is the unknown variable. But if he can't do better than Dumbose I will be shocked.

The thing about Coach Dubose is that he had a wealth of talent and a very strong supporting cast of coaches, despite the turmoil in house. Every now and then, I like to watch the games from the 99 season and marvel on the formations that we threw out. Most of our opposition had no clue what we were going to do and Zow was a perfect fit in that Offense. Plus, Dubose may have been a less than stellar HC, but he knew Defense and it showed.

As for Coach Shula, how is he unproven? He looked pretty good last year up until Brodie went down and I find it hard to fathom that any other coach in the country could have done any better given the circumstances. The only negative thing I could possibly say about Coach Shula is that he put too much emphasis on getting Brodie his reps and maybe not near enough for Spencer and Mark.
