I hear people hyping everything from Jimmy Barnes to anything else. I saw a trailer for Friday night lights and heard a great philosophy.

Hype is people talking about something that is not Real.

In other words, Let's not hype Jimmy Barnes and JPW and any of the recruits. Until they sign and they walk on the practice field. JPW is already signed but still has not really practiced totally. I will not buy into it until i see them on the field contributing. It is pointless for me to do anything but focus on the real instead of the Unreal. That is what has gotten in trouble before.

Lets step back and realize what we have and what we can do.

Don't worry, I learned my lesson after Billy Ray and Jeff Dunn.....

"Let's not Hype anything....."

But, But, what would we have to talk about?

I KNOW!! How about a nice thread about uniforms :)

Seriously, well said Wp

But, but....................that's what we do here. ;)

Hope is putting faith in a team that they will show up and work hard and never quit in any game.

Hype is putting false hope in a player that we don't even have yet. Thinking that he is going to give us 4 National Championships as soon as he puts on the uniform.

Hype is a fun thing but we have let it cloud or Hope for our team. We all have to come to grips that the Team has a long road back. But it seems that we are going to have a great ride. If Mike S. gives us that ride, or if he only takes us half way there. I think we will be fine. Let start this season believing in the team and forget about who we have Verbally committed. We owe those guys on the field that much.

Don't get me wrong we believe in the team but. Most of our thoughts and wishes have been displaced.

Man, talk about sucking the dang fun out of something. :rolleye2:

If you don't want to get involved in any "hype" then don't. But for other people it is fun to let their imaginations run a little wild. Its exciting for fans to hear about a new recruit from out west that MIGHT be the next gunslinger of the SEC and he commits to your team. Who cares if odds are he won't ever be that? Sure there is a chance for disapointment, but I don't think the potential consequences of disapointment is SO bad that it is not worth enjoying the excitement of a little hype on an incoming recruit.

That is part of the fun of being a fan. Getting excited, getting pumped up, getting away from the normal everyday stresses of life. I enjoy that part of being a fan and I think many others do too. It gives you something to talk about at the dinner table after church on Sundays. It gives you something to look forward to for the future of Bama football.

Don't experience the disapointments before they actually become a disapointment. The kid might actually be the next Brett Favre, Joe Namath, Joe Montana. Who knows? I personally think it is a healthy thing from a fans standpoint to "hype" a kid up. It creates positive thinking and positive thinking is good for the soul.

Exactly...optimism not pessimism....it is good for the heart and good for attitudes...heck, it's prolly good for bringing in more top level recruits....and I agree that over hyping something is bad, especially if you do it everywhere you go....however, in here, on Tidefans, I think saying Brodie is going to break every record...Barnes could be the next Favre...etc etc is healthy

One thing that isn't hype: Shula will return us to glory!

I'm all for wishing and have fun talking about recruting and stuff. But i'm talking about the times that we put so much on a kid. We focus more on the people coming in instead of the actual team. I just don't think that is healthy.

I wouldnt say its hype

there is a difference in hype and expectations: hype is having something and talking it up. Expectations are getting highly recruited players in the hopes more will follow and help us outta this nc2a mess. The hole is deep but with CMS and the new attitude the players have it is being filled in slowly but surely!! :rolleye2:
