I can't blame Christian for trying to go. He'd likely make a team and WR is only going to get more crowded with R. Foster joining the mix. With total uncertainty about the QB I'm not terribly surprised. You also have to base it on if another year would help. #32, it helped him make millions but I doubt it would for Christian. Best of luck to each of them regardless.

Just basing my comments on RTO's post about 22 may be declaring based in his twitter posts. That's all. Just giving a possible rationale IF he decided too.
Ah. I see now. I thought you meant it was a done deal.

Since RTO's post, I've looked at Christion's tweets from time to time. I believe almost all of his tweets have the hashtag "cash" at the end. I'm not sure if he's meaning he is on his way to make the money or what.

It amazes me how seemingly more and more players declare early for the NFL. I guess that old "fear of concussions" isn't really as much as they make it out to be. I of course want to see all our guys succeed but It's hard for an analyst to give a "round X" grade when more players come out every day thus changing the numbers. As for our bubble guys this year I think we have too much apathy in the program so if their mind is on the NFL then that is where they need to go. I'm not bitter about it I just think that for us to rebuild Alabama in the image of 2009 we need to do that with players who are singularly focused on that task.

I noticed James Wilder declared. I remember when we just HAD to sign that guy. I think he was third on the Seminole depth chart. So he's third string for a college team so what does that equate to on an NFL team? Who advises these people?

A couple of points:

(1) More kids are leaving early these days, and that's a trend that has been growing for many years now. Big-time CFB is a three-year game these days. And as for "fear of concussions," they don't play patty-cake in this league, either, so if you are putting your body and physical future at significant harm, why do it for free when you can get paid exorbitant sums of money to do the same thing? If anything, the early entrants only underscore the prevalent injury concerns.

(2) We never "HAD" to have Wilder. A few of the uninformed felt that way -- largely based on his star rating and what his father did way back when -- but no one within the program ever viewed it that way, nor did any of the knowledgeable UA recruiting observers. In fact, if you remember correctly, a lot of people thought he should have played linebacker, and three years later on, quite frankly I think that was and is right. He's a big, physical runner, and certainly capable of making an NFL roster if he can play some special teams, but there won't be any NFL teams fawning over him come April.

Christion Jones was one of the kids who put in for the NFL Draft Advisory Committee, so we shall see.

Frankly, I don't think he is particularly happy about playing time. He only had one catch against Auburn, didn't have any in the Sugar Bowl, and honestly in NOLA last week it seemed like DeAndrew White had just taken over his role in the base offense. I imagine he's probably not too happy about any of that, and playing time in 2014 could be a concern with all that we have returning at WR (as a practical matter only Norwood is gone, and he plays a different role entirely). The expectation is that Black, Foster, and Falkins really push for playing time in 2014, and that will come at the expense of someone.

That said, you have to figure he probably comes back when all the dust settles. I would imagine he could get drafted somewhere, and his return skills would help him make a roster, but the NFL isn't giving huge money to a 5'11, 180 slot WR who has yet to top 375 receiving yards in a year in college. He'd be a third day pick, and he'd be fighting for a job come August. By comparison, another year in T'town sounds like a good idea.

Then again, Draft decisions are inherently unpredictable, and you usually have some surprises around the CFB landscape. Jones could be one of them this year.

And BET,

Great pts btw, more are also making rosters even not being drafted. Y'all predicted that with the success Bama was having this was bound to happen just like transfers. To steal a CNS line, "It is what it is."

Some still joke about the "Wilder to LB" talk, but hindsight suggests that's where he should have played.

It's a pretty deep draft for receivers as well this year, isn't it? That alone should make Jones want to return but I'm sure the evaluation will tell him what he needs to know.

Very, and quite a few have argued one of the deepest ever. Evans, Beckham, Landry, Watkins, Lee, Cooks, Benjamin, Robinson, and others.

Going to be shooting fish in a barrel for NFL GMs looking to add receiver talent.

I'd trade up to get Mike Evans if I was an NFL GM. With a some polish, that guy could absolutely dominate.

Hubbard tweeted he "had all the information he needed" but wouldn't say until tomorrow. The announcement maybe tomorrow, or Adrian just has a personal deadline.
Quite a few people think he is leaving, but the general consensus I've been able to gather is indifference regardless of which way he chooses. More than a couple have speculated that the staff's desire to bring back Pettway was based in part on the expectation that Hubbard would not return. We'll see.
