Looking like the following for assistants...

I believe that speech was from 2014 or earlier....

My bad. You are correct. The article I read was from 3 days ago by Ron Evans, titled "Alabama Football: Past Nick Saban presser may explain what went wrong in 2018". I did not catch the word "Past" in the title, only listened to the video.

So how does everyone feel about this staff? Personally I am pretty happy about it. Like most of us, I am a little nervous about Golding being the DC (an assumption), but Coach knows best, and I think that the coaches we brought in are all very experienced professional football coaches who can help us.

Still not sold on Golding or Banks. The rest of the staff looks to be an improvement from last year's staff.

I agree! It is definitely an upgrade! ;)

Golding get a small pass. He will get a chance to implement his vision within the LB and DL group. If we continue to have an issue after 3rd game this fall, then we got a big problem.

Stepped out for lunch and heard on the radio that Saban was talking to Petrino. They didn't say it was necessarily about a coaching position. This was on the radio show with Cole Cubelic and Aaron Suttles..

I totally agree. I haven't heard any negative reports about any of the rehab off- field coaches/interns. And on the flip side, I seem to recall where there have been positive contributions made by most if not all of these off-field hires. (Bold so that I don't catch Joey Freshwater heat. :biggrin2: )on TideFans.com
Hadn't heard about Stoops. Glad to have him. Always good to have experienced eyes around.

Vinnie's brother Tino tweeted he was leaving Tennessee to join Alabama's staff (didn't say position).

Rivals reporting Major Applewhite could be a possibility as an analyst, too.

Regarding Banks, it seemed our TE play was very good and our special teams was good other than the actual kicking/punting of the ball and I can't hold that against him. He is also a very good recruiter so I like Banks.

Agreed the jury is still out on Golding but if he is our DC as some have speculated we are going to find out soon if he is a good defensive mind.

I am very pleased with this staff and I think we will see vast improvement in a lot of areas.

TE play has been great since Saban arrived - nothing to do with Banks.
Special teams other than the kickers has been great since Saban arrived - nothing to do with Banks.

Banks gets no credit for the above - none.

Yes, he is a great recruiter, but so are the other guys that Saban just fired. He was brought to Alabama to improve the performance of the one area that has lacked consistency since Saban arrived - kickers. He inherited a kicker who performed very well at another school before transferring to Alabama, and one of the highest ranked kicking recruits out of HS. He also inherited the highest ranked punter out of HS. All 3 failed, including the guys who kicked great in college before he met Banks.

Maybe he will improve in 2019. I hope so. But he had one job to do in 2018 and he failed.

Based on your analysis of coaching under Saban we can't say an assistant coach has done a good job since 2009. Every facet of our team has been very good or great since Saban arrived so it has nothing do with the coach? Sorry but I don't buy that.

Banks can't go out there and kick/punt the ball. Several NFL FG kickers got released early in the year due to some bad or multiple misses. I guess they should have fired the special team coach instead .
