I am a graduate of USC and a long time Gamecock supporter. I just finished listening to the Paul Finebaum talk show and I could have sworn I was listening to a Clemson talk show. I never thought I would hear Alabama fans calling in and downing the team and the coach the way they were. Clemson fans are all behind the team and very loyal when they are winning but in times like they are going through now, they are calling for Bowdens head even after they were all happy to give him a long contract extension after last year.

One thing I can say about Gamecock fans is that we are loyal to the end, no matter what our record is. We have had average seasons lately and we still put 84,000+ fans in the stadium for every home game and at away games we can put as many fans in the stadium as the home team no matter how far we have to travel. Those are real fans. What I heard on the Paul Finebaum talk show are not fans. They are just fair weather fans. Don't get me wrong, I second guess Lou Holtz too, but I know that he knows better than me. Hindsight is 20/20. Lou is very conservative and I don't like that because I want to see a wide open offense. He keeps the game close and tries to win it in the end as you all remember from the last time you came to Columbia. That was a great game and that is the type of game I expect on Saturday. I will be at the game and hopefully if will be in our favor.

I have always liked Alabama football and you guys have some nice fans. I have been reading some of your messages boards over the past week and it seems like the wheels are falling off the wagon. Maybe it is because none of you have had to face diversity in your football program in the past. Most of your fans don't know how to handle it, but I do. I have been a Gamecock fan for a long time. You have to ride out the storm. You still have to support the team and the coach even if you don't agree with hid decisions. You did not lose to Arkansas because of that 4th and 1 decision. That play should not have mattered because Alabama should have had the game in hand by that time. Alabama is just going through some growing pains right now. It will pass sooner than you may think. Just hang in there and be supportive. Believe me, I have been there.

In reading your message boards this past week, you guys seem to be takin the Gamecocks very lightly. I hope you continue to do that because if you do you are going to wake up on Sunday morning with your *** feeling worse than it did this past Sunday. If I very you, I would do a little more homework on South Carolina than you have done so far. You can rest assured that Lou Holtz will have the team ready to play and at the top of their game. Alabama has not yet faced a defense this year that is as fast as ours or that hits as hard as ours. Ask Georgia. Their starting running back left the game bleeding from his lung he got hit so hard. Alabama doesn't have a defensive back that can keep up with Troy Williamson, #82, 4.25 speed. If you double team him, we have three others that are almost as fast as him. Keep your eyes on #1, Noah Whiteside, if you double team Willamson. He is a Freshman bu every bit as good as Williamson. Whiteside also returns punts very well. Alabama may not know it yet but they are in for a very long day on television. The reason our quarterback is not listed in the SEC top 10 is because be split time between Pinkins and Newton. Pinkins, #5 is 6'2", 250 lbs and is very fast. He is like a quick fullback playing quarterback. He runs the ball a lot and can take the punishment. Newton, #13 is a Michael Vick type quarterback. He is 6'1", 210 lbs and is very elusive with a cannon for an arm. He will be our quarterback for the next two years so you will see him again when you come to Columbia next year. So take a good look at him.

In closing, I am looking forward to the game and I hope to get to meet some of you at the game. May the best team win and I know it will be a very good game. Get off of Shula's back and support him. He doesn't need a gameplan for the fans as well as the opposing team.I will be back on here next week whether we win or lose.

Prediction: South Carolina -- 24
Alabama -- 16

Paul Finebaum tells it the way it is, whether you like it or not.

Welcome to Tidefans!

Most of us fans who actually attended the University of Alabama, and/or hold season tickets, and/or are crimson to the core, do not listen to Slimebaum and his "Phyllis from Mulga" trailor park methed out crankpots.

We love our Tide, and while some of us are getting impatient with the rebuilding of our program, we all share a strong confidence in our coach and the players.

You guys will be a heckuva team to play. I have nothing but respect for Lou Holtz.

I, personally, think we will eek out a win, but hey, I am a member of the BamaNation. :)

S. Carolina fans should be commended for their loyalty because you guys definitely support your team until the end. You guys rock that stadium of yours, but we Bama fans, while loyal, are very spoiled. If we don't win every game 50-0 our fair-weather fans show their faces and voices. Don't worry about us, for our true fan base is large and loyal. We do like to complain a little bit on occasion, though, and we also head to the exits early if we aren't playing well. I hope Bryant-Denny is rocking until the end come Saturday.

Welcome sunbear! Thanks for the analysis on USC. I too am worried about this game but am hoping home field advantage will help us out. I am not taking the gamecocks lightly, of that I can assure you. Have a great time posting and Roll Tide!

It doesn't matter

If fans take a team lightly or not, we're not the one's playing the game. Just because 5 or 6 Bama fans, or Auburn fans posing as Bama fans called Finebaum and unloaded about what they think was a mistake by Shula certainly doesn't mean that's an indication on the entire Bama Nation. Your Gamecocks better be ready to hear some loud, rowdy, true Crimson Tide fans on Saturday night because we're going to rock the house and give Lou a major headache.

We always welcome rival fans...

who come to discuss football and without a sack of smack. I don't know where you're finding these boards that are taking USC lightly. They must be boards I don't frequent. The only lines I've seen have have us at about a three point favorite, which is about the normal homefield advantage - which means about a toss-up. You said we hadn't experience "diversity," but I'm sure you meant "adversity." Obviously, you haven't followed our fortunes over the last decade or so. Those of us who are honest, and even half-way FB-savvy, don't know what to expect with the QB change, particularly after this last weekend. To echo what some of the other posters have said, Alabama, as the state university with a lot of historic FB success, has a lot of what I'd call "lightly-connected" fans, who don't have the staying power for the long-term goals. USC fans are some of the premier FB supporters in the SEC. The crowds you muster even in the worst years are the envy of all the other schools. Back to X&Os, we know who to watch for on your team. I just hope to see a better play mix this Saturday...

Welcome, sunbear. Excellent post. There are some Bama fans who need to read what you said about your fellow USC fans and take it to heart. However, the callers on Finebaum are not indicative of the majority of the Bama faithful.

You make some valid points in supporting your team. But I also think you may be underestimating Bama. The Gamecocks have also not seen a defense like Bama's. Both of your QBs had better have their track shoes on because our D will be coming after them.

Hope we have a great game without any injuries and hope you enjoy your trip to our beautiful campus.

Both the University of Alabama and the Gamecocks are having a better than expected year...one of us will have some work to do on Sunday. We shall see soon enough. If your attending, enjoy the Bryant Denny Stadium which is on our Campus. The fun and Games on the Quad and try to visit the Bryant Musium. The Capstone...It a great place to go to football game!

i like your team, but i don't think Pinkins is a great QB by any means. some of the worst throws by any QB in the SEC over the last couple of years have been made by Pinkins. Newton is going to be a better QB, but is still in his infancy.

Troy State ran the ball on you guys pretty well on Saturday night so i wouldn't be surprised if BAMA runs up a storm. i'm not saying they'll win, but there will be plenty of galloping by the likes of Ray Ray, KD, and Mr. Castille.

until BAMA "re-finds" a passing game, i shall refrain from any score predicting.

Welcome !

Welcome Sunbear & good luck to you this season, well...all except that one little ole game of this upcoming Saturday ! ;)

One minor note, though - Paul Finebaum does have several "floaters" who are paid to call in regularly or at random for his show - they stir the pot & then Paul sits back & watches, hoping that the wheels will fall off the cart to cause some sort of upset that he can gossip even more about...SOME people actually fall for it - most don't. Don't believe what you hear, in other words, by the "callers" for the MOST part!

ROLL TIDE!

after Saturday I do not think you will see Bama over looking anyone.
I expect SC to come prepared to spank us hard, and to be honest, if our team makes the mistakes it made at ARK you will go home a winner.
And do not worry about those over looking SC, I think they got their big mouths shut up last Saturday, some of them were predicting a 40 point blow out on our part.........I never knew where that was coming from. They were prediciting how many yards Marc would get and all kinds of crap like that, I guess that where you read where we were taking SC soft. There is NO game left on our schudule where we can X a win, its going to be tough from here on out to get our wins to go bowling. Hope you have a safe and pleasant trip to Tuscaloosa, and heres also hoping on Sunday morning your the one feeling sad. Roll Tide!!

LOl JD. I agree with his comments totally. This game is decided by the lines.
I personally think that MG will have a very good game.

gee, im sure am glad we have totally detached fans of other schools to come on our board and tell us how to behave. what would we do without them? the reason SC is always so spirited is because they are USED to not winning anything. that's NOT bama. we've been in a slump, and while the overwhelming majority are behind the coaches and players, we are all just tiring a little, naturally. but just because some choose to vent their frustration, dont go assuming the entire fan base is the same. they aren't.

First, Paul Finebaum doesn't tell it like it is. He wishes he knew something about football and sports in general, but sadly, he doesn't. And those "fans"
you heard? Most aren't representative of Alabama's fanbase. And most importantly, Alabama's football team isn't taking this game lightly. If South Carolina wins, they will have earned it. Just as Arkansas did last week.

Those "fans" you heard on Finebaum? It's probably 50/50 at best that they're actually BAMA fans. Don't judge our fanbase on what you hear on Finebaum.

Hey sunbear, nice of you to drop by.....Now Finebaum is an entertainer, more of a comedian than a sports writer.....he is the Howard Stern of sports radio...the more he can get people mad & stired up, the higher his ratings go.....& he knows that & that is how he makes it, & it is pretty darn smart if you ask me, he found a click in the sports radio world, & it works. As for the game, the Bama fans are no way taking the game cocks lightly, I promise you that....Lou Holtz is a legend, & Bama fans know you can't look past a Lou Holtz team. This game is going to be ugly imo, Shula is very conservative, & Holtz wrote the book on being conservative, don't look for a 41-38 game...the big uglies will be the star in this game, & you might think you are in a time machine watching this one...very physical, & very ugly, & run run run, pound pound pound, & who is ever left standing will be the victor...good luck Saturday & Roll Tide Roll!!!!!

Welcome Sunbear.

While you may feel that Bama fans are overlooking USC, it almost seems as if you, yourself, may be overlooking Bama. In that entire post, the only positive thing you said about Bama is that she has some nice fans. Not flaming you, just making an observation.

I watched the USC-GA game and pulled mightily for the Gamecocks. What I saw was USC not able to get the job done against a GA team that has struggled to live up to their billing so far this season. I saw USC have a couple of chances late to pull the game back out after losing a 16 point lead only to fumble in the redzone and throw an interception to end the last threat. USC played admirably; but it was against one of your top two rivals. You expect a higher level of play in those type games.

I believe USC has a solid, stout defense and 2-3 pretty good playmakers on offense. However, the offense isn't very productive in the redzone.

This game should be a battle and I think the key to victory will be whether Bama can shut down the SC passing attack and force them to win on the ground (which will not be easy against Bama) and whether or not USC can shut down Bama's run game and make them win through the air.

My opinion, admittedly biased, is that Bama - with home field advantage, a fantastic running game and a better kicking game - wins.

Looking forward to it!!

Sunbear.....

..... we have some rabid fans to say the least. You say USC fans stick by their team and don't hate on the coach, well I would not expect anything different from a mediocre school. You expect nothing, you get nothing. It's a little different here in AL, just based on the fact that we know what it's like to be champions and not just a complacent midpack team.

Why I don't agree with all the public comments of the fans and all the negativity at times after I loss, I have to remember who they cheer for on Saturday. Sometimes I bite my tongue and move on, but it does not meant that some stuff they say has not crossed my mind. Heck this is Alabama, we expect more and I can't blame another fan for expecting more even when we are in a rebuild mode, some just have passion that outweighs the reality of our current situation. Sometimes they speak aloud and should not, I agree with that....

Sunbear..... You show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser. Are South Carolina fans good losers?
