I am a graduate of USC and a long time Gamecock supporter. I just finished listening to the Paul Finebaum talk show and I could have sworn I was listening to a Clemson talk show. I never thought I would hear Alabama fans calling in and downing the team and the coach the way they were. Clemson fans are all behind the team and very loyal when they are winning but in times like they are going through now, they are calling for Bowdens head even after they were all happy to give him a long contract extension after last year.
One thing I can say about Gamecock fans is that we are loyal to the end, no matter what our record is. We have had average seasons lately and we still put 84,000+ fans in the stadium for every home game and at away games we can put as many fans in the stadium as the home team no matter how far we have to travel. Those are real fans. What I heard on the Paul Finebaum talk show are not fans. They are just fair weather fans. Don't get me wrong, I second guess Lou Holtz too, but I know that he knows better than me. Hindsight is 20/20. Lou is very conservative and I don't like that because I want to see a wide open offense. He keeps the game close and tries to win it in the end as you all remember from the last time you came to Columbia. That was a great game and that is the type of game I expect on Saturday. I will be at the game and hopefully if will be in our favor.
I have always liked Alabama football and you guys have some nice fans. I have been reading some of your messages boards over the past week and it seems like the wheels are falling off the wagon. Maybe it is because none of you have had to face diversity in your football program in the past. Most of your fans don't know how to handle it, but I do. I have been a Gamecock fan for a long time. You have to ride out the storm. You still have to support the team and the coach even if you don't agree with hid decisions. You did not lose to Arkansas because of that 4th and 1 decision. That play should not have mattered because Alabama should have had the game in hand by that time. Alabama is just going through some growing pains right now. It will pass sooner than you may think. Just hang in there and be supportive. Believe me, I have been there.
In reading your message boards this past week, you guys seem to be takin the Gamecocks very lightly. I hope you continue to do that because if you do you are going to wake up on Sunday morning with your *** feeling worse than it did this past Sunday. If I very you, I would do a little more homework on South Carolina than you have done so far. You can rest assured that Lou Holtz will have the team ready to play and at the top of their game. Alabama has not yet faced a defense this year that is as fast as ours or that hits as hard as ours. Ask Georgia. Their starting running back left the game bleeding from his lung he got hit so hard. Alabama doesn't have a defensive back that can keep up with Troy Williamson, #82, 4.25 speed. If you double team him, we have three others that are almost as fast as him. Keep your eyes on #1, Noah Whiteside, if you double team Willamson. He is a Freshman bu every bit as good as Williamson. Whiteside also returns punts very well. Alabama may not know it yet but they are in for a very long day on television. The reason our quarterback is not listed in the SEC top 10 is because be split time between Pinkins and Newton. Pinkins, #5 is 6'2", 250 lbs and is very fast. He is like a quick fullback playing quarterback. He runs the ball a lot and can take the punishment. Newton, #13 is a Michael Vick type quarterback. He is 6'1", 210 lbs and is very elusive with a cannon for an arm. He will be our quarterback for the next two years so you will see him again when you come to Columbia next year. So take a good look at him.
In closing, I am looking forward to the game and I hope to get to meet some of you at the game. May the best team win and I know it will be a very good game. Get off of Shula's back and support him. He doesn't need a gameplan for the fans as well as the opposing team.I will be back on here next week whether we win or lose.
Prediction: South Carolina -- 24
Alabama -- 16
