LSU can only afford one jersey?

I've always wondered this about LSU. They have one main jersey, and a horrible alt. purple one. So besides the purple they may wear once a year, why wear white at home? Are they so ashamed of their own colors they don't think they can make an 'attractive' uni?

Cheaper!

LSU has worn the current style white jersies at home since 1957.

The exception was when the NCAA passed a regulation that said all teams must wear their colors at home and they wore purple for a few years. The only teams that had to change were LSU and Georgia Tech since they were the only teams that didn't wear a color at home.

Finally the NCAA relented and let LSU wear white home jersies if the visiting team agreed. The only time they are different is at Homecoming, when they wear the "home purple"!

I know Coach Spurrier forced LSU to wear their Purple jersies before to intimidate them when he coached at Florida.....lol

Yes, and that year was......1998! The year that we beat a number 1 ranked Florida team 28-21. Don't think the intimadation factor worked for the Ol Ball coach that year.

You are right about everything else. While I agree that Purple would not be one of my favorite colors, if I weren't an LSU fan, I believe it makes us unique. Just look at how many schools in the SEC wear some combination of Red and White. (Bama, Arkansas, USC, Miss. State)

The story of how LSU's colors came to be:
The official colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green and gold. Many years ago, some LSU students went to get decorations for an event and only found those colors in the store. They chose the purple and gold items and left out the green.

I remember that game. I happened to be in New Orleans staying at the Marriott downtown that weekend. That was a great SEC football weekend. I remember watching that game in my hotel room and then heading to Bourbon street right after it was over. Man, folks were going nuts. Unfortunately, I've never been to a Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, so that experience was probably as close as I'll get.

Personally, I think the Purple and Gold is a good fit for LSU. I understand the original schools colors were different but the influence of Mardi Gras early last century fed its way into the LSU culture.

Considering the French culture, the "royalty" aspect New Orleans had decades ago...seems like a great fit to me.

I like LSU's colors myself. As has been stated, different than anything else in the SEC.

Didn't Dinardo pull out some gold jerseys one season? Seems like I remember that they were hideous. Or maybe I'm thinking about the year they played ND in the bowl game and ND wore gold jerseys?

DiNArdo did pull out some hideous gold jerseys one night. It was against Vany the year after he left the Commodores to come to LSU. Vandy refused to allow LSU to wear the home white, so we plyed in gole jersies and won 35-0.

Personally, I like the white at home. That, the H shaped goal posts, and the field marked with numbers every 5 are yards are some of the things that make Saturdays in Baton Rouge unique.

Blue and Gold?

Their jersey's have looked blue this year and not purple. I thought maybe that Miles didn't like the purple or something. Maybe it was just the networks cameras.
