Just a thought. Could it be possible that Major Applewhite could be the future head coach at Alabama. He has the knowledge for the game and he loves the university. So could he be a possible candidate after Saban? Just a thought?

probably not at alabama because another program will probably get him before saban leaves alabama (or retires)

Good Point, but we pulled him away from Rice, and if he gets in a few years as HC somewhere else to solidify his coaching abilities, we can always make him an offer when CNS decides to hang up the clipboard.

If Major was pulled away from Alabama to be a head coach elsewhere, I assure you that, if the U of A called him back to be head coach some day, he'd come back in a heartbeat. Coaching at the U of A is his dream job. Period. End of sentence.

Filed away for future reference. Would be great after Saban is ready to retire.:BigA:

I do NOT know the answers, so I am asking.

HC at his alma mater, Texas?

HC at his boyhood love, Alabama?

Does he consider UT momma if she calls or are they the wicked step-mother?

Another question. Why does he still love Alabama so much after we would not even offer him out of HS?

Inquiring minds what to know! :BigA: :BigA: :BigA: :BigA:

Read the Major Mastermind article on al.com and read some of the things he said at Alabama while playing for UT and coaching at Rice and you will see where his heart is.

That's a good question and probably one only he can answer. Thankfully for us, he certainly seems to still love Alabama.

Maybe. He would be a good candidate.

But, I seriously hope we don't have to worry about finding another head coach for at LEAST six years, hopefully ten or more.

Bama didn't recruit me either, and I still love the Tide. Of course I wound up going to school there. So it all worked out for the best. Had my attention been diverted by football I might never have become a great Quarters champion.

You are some "Funny Guys" ! Saban has not coached one game and some of you are talking about replacing him with Major Applewite. This is funny stuff.

Here is one thing that has not been brought up. I believe that Alabama will require head coaching experience and a proven winner (at whatever level they coach) before hiring someone. Is it possible that Major could be groomed to take over as head coach? Sure, but I don't believe he'll be considered unless he eventually gets the Offensive Coordinator role, does well and is also an assistant head coach.

I believe it is much more likely that Ozzie Newsome would seriously consider Major in the future than Mal as the NFL is much more likely to hire an assistant without HC experience than Alabama.

The thought of Major Applewhite as HC definitely crossed my mind, but then I reminded myself that he's only 27 or so (maybe younger), has been a full time college coach only two years, and a coordinator only one.

Experience counts a lot, and even though he's been successful so far, that's the one thing only time can bring.

Still, he has the makings. In 8-10 years, assuming continued progress at the current rate, I'd have to think he'll receive consideration. And if offered, I think he'd be in the chair before the AD finished talking.

Texas may be his alma mater, but I'm not so sure he has the warm fuzzies for UT that he does for Alabama. He can blame the Alabama snubbing on one dumb (#*%& coach who has since been repudiated.

And remember: Major's time in Austin was not without controversy and benching in favor of a more talented, but less-experienced, more mistake-prone and less mature Chris Simms with leadership skills inferior to Applewhite's.

I'm guessing Mack Brown and Nick Saban will retire at about the same time. Assuming Applewhite is coveted by both at that time, who do you think he'd be more likely to forgive? Interesting question.

LOL, I must say you have a point. This is kind of insane.

But, when you've been through what we've been through...

Funny thing is, I was just thinking how this was the four year anniversary of hiring only coach at Bama who never had a winning nor losing record.

The good news: He never lost to UT, Florida, LSU, or auburn.

The bad news: He never beat them, either.

Maybe. He would be a good candidate.

I think Saban is with us for the long haul. We've got him for at least the contract period IMO. If I was a betting man I'd say 10+ years.
