"Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Major Applewhite has been contacted by Houston to replace Art Briles, ESPN.com reported on Wednesday.
Briles on Monday resigned to become the coach at Baylor.
Applewhite, 29, is the youngest coordinator in college football.
Applewhite has coaching ties to Houston, having served as the offensive coordinator at Rice in 2006 as the Owls played in a bowl game for the first time in more than 20 years. "

How is that "coaching ties?" That's stretching it a bit, huh?:D I guess he means the city of Houston.
 
I have a sneaky suspician that Coach Saban isn't 100% pleased with Applewhite's performance. I say that because of two instances where I say Saban screaming into his headphones at someone.
 
Well that is one heckuva nice buncha guys on the staff there at Houston - working conditions, attitude, & "atmosphere" is awesome.

I don't know if CMA is ready for a head-job, but ya hafta start somewhere & I'm not so sure that he & CNS will last.

The only hitch is that CMA has always wanted to BE at Alabama & is an Alabama fan - so I think it may be hard for him to walk away from this with his probable future dream of taking over after CNS retires, etc. (not saying tht would happen - just saying he'd WANT it to)

This is a mixed bag here, because lots of it hinges on how he & CNS get along day to day too, as to how long he can take being here or wanting to move up in to the coaching ranks, too. And how happy his family is in Tuscaloosa, the community - I mean, ya either fit in there & are happy as a pig in the sunshine - or ya don't fit in & ya want out at the first opportunity- there's not much grey area there...) Hard one.

If he were to take this, I wonder who we'd get for that spot here.

If this were the criteria for displeasure, a lot of past assistants/coordinators would have left their jobs. CNS said he was very pleased with his staff.....
anyone who thinks that the best CMA has to offer has been on display yet is in for a shock! :biggrin2:
 
i'd hate to see him leave but i know he has aspirations to be a head coach someday. as for cns screaming at someone,he does that to everyone! i also have been told he has a short memory when it comes to this sorta thing,screaming,telling coaches they're fired,etc;
 
This thread will not be one for conjecture about CNS's satisfaction regarding CMA.

I'm with AJ - I hope CMA does what is best for him, whether that be stay here or go to UH.

You got to do what's best for you and your family.
 
Major will certainly do what is best for him, but I think he is wise enough to realize that climbing the coaching ladder too quickly can ultimately lead to a premature demise of one's career. I'm not saying that I know the best thing for Major is to stay in Tuscaloosa another 6-8 years, but you've got to believe that he will be better qualified for much better opportunities the longer he can work under someone like CNS.

I agree completely. There will be plenty of other (and probably better) opportunities down the road. I might be a little selfish, but I think development would be best for him now. I hope he stays.
 
Isnt there some story about a game where Bear Bryant was mad about one of his coaches and fired him during the game because how his team was playing and one of the assistants told someone it was okay because he had fired him twice already....lol
 
As someone mentioned in relation to the SMU job, CMA could have had the Rice HC job if he wanted it. He chose to come to Bama with Saban.

Yes, things might be different a year later but personally, I will be surprised if CMA pursues it right now.

Very good points. At this stage of his career, development under a coach like Saban would seem to be the best path to take. This season was somewhat out of synce, so I would be in his best interest to stick around so he can learn how to turn a dysfunctional team around.

My thoughts exactly. Good post.

Additionally, I can't say I'm surprised. We all knew that other programs would want pillage guys from this staff, but I didn't expect it this quickly. They haven't even won their first SEC Championship yet. :p_green:

I think it was Mal Moore that it happened to.
 
I just hope he stays with us. Coach Saban demands the best out of everyone. CMA will learn more by staying. He will be a good head coach in the future. I'm glad we have a coaching staff that everyone else wants to hire. :biggrin2:
