A documentary.....on a hoax......that affects nobody.

Now - if he had WON the Heisman Trophy, this would be an incredibly hilarious story since he would have dedicated his trophy to someone who never existed.

You make documentaries about Bo Rein (they did), SEC expansion, OJ Simpson, Fifth Down (and only then because that team won the national title, without which nobody would even remember it).

You don't make documentaries about unicorns. And yes, the Loch Ness Monster is a hoax BUT it was a well-orchestrated one that captured worldwide attention, not some football player who wasn't even the best defensive player on his team getting piped for an award he didn't deserve and not dating.
I won’t watch it, because I don’t like to see the guy dragged anew (even willingly) through that level of humiliation. Unless anyone alleges Te’o was complicit, which I haven’t credibly seen, he clearly was at the time an ingénu (technically, the word doesn’t exist; but it should). That he’s a willing participant in this documentary makes we wonder if he isn’t still, despite his years; but in any event a significant segment of our population would find the sensation value reason enough to tune in; with luck, some of them compassionately…

Meh, just show the gif or video of him missing or getting trucked by Eddie Lacy. I'll watch it then.

All I know is that if I got embarrassed in a "catfishing" incident, I sure as heck would want that story to go away as quickly as possible and I definitely would not participate in a documentary about it. So if he gets messed on now, it's all on him, so he better had gotten paid.

The documentary implies that Te'O didn't play well due to the scandal and that this hurt Notre Dame's chances in the game. Te'O deserves a lot of credit, however, because he was the one person on the documentary who said that Bama was just better. Nobody else wanted to admit that Bama was just a lot better than Notre Dame. I still remember Herbie saying how shocked he was when he saw the two teams side by side. He also said that he knew the game was over when Bama ran down the field and scored a TD so quickly and easily on the first drive.

I was performing cold fusion experiments out in our storage shed as a six year old when I discovered my parents had been “cat fishing” me with characters like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy.

I was devastated. If I couldn’t trust my parents, then how could I trust the laws of physics? And, ergo, Sheldon Cooper is where he is today.
Quick…call Netflix…

I watched it late one night to see the full story as I didn’t play close attention when it happened. Didn‘t really care as long as Alabama collected another championship. I was curious to see the full story. All I can say is I came away with a new respect for Manti as a person. He deeply cared for people: family, fans and strangers. If the documentary is accurate, someone whose sole purpose was to make his people proud and be a good person was ridiculed and made a pariah because he did not understand how cruel the world can be. We like to talk about character and who these players are outside of football. He was a good football player but outside of that it seems he was a better person.
After watching I came away feeling he had no knowledge of what was happening to him. His main crime was being incredibly sheltered and naive. In the end you could see the pain this caused him. The fact that this would be with him for the rest of his life. Even then he said he forgave the person behind his pain and suffering. That is something only a handful of us could aspire to do.

Come on man, Really??. He wasn't some crook or sexual predator he was a naive kid. People act like he belongs on the same hall of shame that Jameis Winston, Deshaun Watson, and Johnny Football belong because he was gullible at 20 years old.

I've not watched it - doubt I will - but I can't see giving this young man a hard time about it. I cannot imagine how embarrassing this has been for him, I'm not gong to relish his misfortune (because he didn't play for fifteenessee).

I know it's been a few years but didn't he didn't he say that he had gone to see her during the season? It sounded like, if I remember correctly, that he was propping up the hoax. All I can say for sure was that the thread about it on this board was some of the funniest stuff I had ever read.
