NM stated that he was dismissed solely because he was not "pro-Alabama" enough. I am sorry the guy is out of a job, BUT has anyone ever read or heard anything even remotely "pro-Bama" from NM?! In reading some of the responses to this news about why his show has been lifted, one of the best COMMENTS is from a reader named CrimsonTied that puts the hammer to the nail, IMHO.

I pray that he'll take his little lap dog, Jed Williams with him. Its probably too much to hope for to have the Mobile Register also show McCready and his ego the door. The guy seemed to go out of his way to voice his contempt for the State of Alabama and Alabamians (Tide fans in particular) on a daily basis. Maybe now, he'll take his sorry butt elsewhere.

I've never heard his show so I'm not really commenting on the specifics regarding that.... HOWEVER

It always amazes me when people yell about free speech and then are shocked to find out that free speech works both ways in the commercial / business world and has consequences they may not like.

Kinda hard to be an objective reporter when you're slamming people and injecting your own opinion in everything you do.

Imagine that ... an anti-Bama talk show not going over well in the state of Alabama.

Let's see ... what shall we try to sell next ... George W. Bush bobbleheads at the Democratic convention?

Yesterday he was talking the whole day like ULM was going to beat us this weekend. He kept going a little overboard and I guess now he wished he found a new subject. Yes, he was making it seem like he was joking but he was still doing it in a way to harp on Bama.

I love the last comment, "My Christmas wish is that you'll be next Ian."

There's a person with an axe to grind.

Re: SIAP, but McCready no longer on Mobile radio...

Sorry, But I'm not gonna get on the Bash McCready train.

I thought he did a pretty good job. He was paid to voice his opinions, and that's what he did. My problem is moreso with how he was let go. I'd venture to think that if the same happened to anyone on this board, they'd be pretty hacked off.

It wasn't just Bama that he took shots at, it was everyone (ESPECIALLY his alma mater Ole Miss). I personally would rather have someone a little more unbiased than a sunshine pumper(not that this was the case with McCready, but you get my point).

In the end, I guess it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. WNSP is a joke and has never had decent ratings in Mobile. They have a weak signal (you really can't even pick it up in Gulf Shores) and most of their local shows are decent at best.

I listened to the show just about everyday driving home, and while I didn't agree with everything NM he still had some pretty good things every once in a while. I don't think that he was let go because he was against the University of Alabama but moreover the state of Alabama. He had some pretty harsh things to say about the people in who lived in this state and about the football teams who were here. I do, however, agree that he should have at least been able to broadcast before being let go. Oh well...I HATE AUBURN!!!!:BigA:

It means "Sorry if already posted." And it should never be seen on this site. On sites like TI, where dozens of pages go by in a day, its unreasonable to ask folks to research the entire site. Here, where we have the site organized so that people can easily tell what's been posted lately, when you see it, it means the poster hasn't scanned the front page for dupes...

McCready was not on the radio when I lived in Mobile and I have never heard his radio show so I can't comment on that. If it is anything like a lot of his MPR columns with an anti-Alabama slant then I can see why he was canned. I know the Auburn fans must be sad. They probably keep his show going and they were probably the loyal listeners he didn't get to say goodbye to. lol

He was on the Auburn beat for a while. He also won some kind of journalistic award for "breaking" the Mike Price debacle. It was kind of humorous today how they would announce he would no longer be on the show and then praise him for his talent.

I too never listened to his show but I heard him often on Finebaum. NM is about as dumb of a sports person as I've ever heard.

Whether or not he was fired because of him bashing Bama is not relevant. If he is too dumb to realize that Mobile and some of the Panhandle that airs his crap is very much PRO Bama then he deserves to be fired.

While I'm not a Finebaum lover, the guy at least gives credit where credit is due and he bashes when it's time to bash. Paul has always liked Bama (as much as some Bama people hate to admit it) but he likes us in a way that allows him to bash when he feels its needed. NM, when I heard him was just a putz and favored the Aubs fairly regularly and I think he has a man crush on TT. Again, his market is likely 70% Bama, so if he thinks he can stay on the air and not at least Pander a bit to the HOME CROWD then he's just an idiot.

Neal is a good guy off the radio... but he tried to hard let his hate for certain teams get in his way, and unfortunately you can't hold a job too long doing that, especially if your listeners like that team.

Good deal, glad he's gone.

raise your hand if...

You had a sports radio based in Alabama and instead of attending a Game for any of the major schools in Alabama you head to Florida and cover Florida and Tennessee. Then on air declare you can't really comment on either of the Instate Teams Games because you weren't around to witness them.... it was time for him to go.
