Merged thread griping about Griese and other talking heads...

Re: Bob Griese on College Football Live

From a poster, not of this board. His feelings about Bobby the Grease...I concur.

I just watched a segment on Sportscenter, an interview with Bob Griese and Mercury Morriss, in which Griese was hailed as the "architect of the Dolphins 17-0 season." Uh, hello? Has anyone at ESPN ever heard of Earl Morrall? After Griese went down with an ankle injury in game 5, Morrall started 11 of the 17 games in that perfect season. Griese came back to finish the AFC Championship Game and start in the Super Bowl, but I say that Earl Morrall was at least as responsible for the Dolphins' perfect season as Bob Griese was.

Really, it was the No Name Defense who won that championship. All Grieseball did was hand the ball off too one of the three running backs. He rarely threw it more than 12-15 times and that to Warfield. The Defense won those championships in those years.

I agree about the d'fense, Csonka, Kiick, and Morris. I also agree that Earl Morral was the better QB that year. Even though he had 15+ years on Greasy.

Re: Bob Griese on College Football Live

Greasy ( no, i didn't spell it that way by mistake) shows just how much he knows about Bama football when he gets on national TV and says we are losing our QB next year... Boy, he's bright.

Re: Bob Greise on College Football Live

He also said it would be awhile before Bama competed because 1.) we lost to La-Monroe, and 2.) we lose a ton of players including our QB

When I heard him say that I about threw my cup at the TV. Good thing the wife was sitting in the room. I didn't know JP was a Senior, & correct me if I am wrong, we are only losing 4 starters; Hall, Gilberry, Castille & Mustin. What a DUFUS!!!

Re: Bob Griese on College Football Live

:BigA: Losing our QB? Must have inside information or just mumbling of a moron? Bright boy that Bob Griese!:conf2::conf2::conf2:

Re: Bob Greise on College Football Live

Greise's Big 10 bias isn't the problem in this situation...

It's his Miami Dolphins bias. All the Dolphins players of the past will quickly jump on Saban, yet they will be silent when the poor decisions by the idiot coach before him are discussed.

Bobby is crying because the dollfins are about to become 0-16. Miami the only NFL team in history to have two perfect records.

2007 0-16
1973 17-0

After this season Bob and the dolphins will not pop the top. New England will go 19-0. Now Bob and his teammates can pop a can of skunk beer and drown their tears.

DiamondDust is correct. Bob is playing the blame game. He is too old for that kind of emotion.

Re: Bob Griese on College Football Live

He makes me sick! He's so well prepared...we're losing our QB? Someone else may be playing if he earns the job, but that's another story. They're mad because even though Saban "couldn't cut it in the NFL", the new coach is still trying to win his first game.

Re: Bob Griese on College Football Live

for a day and a half, I've heard about the poor atlanta falcons, and about the SEC and what a cesspool of integrity it is!
where was this outrage when petrino left louisville, or coach left lswho? it is always 'what a great hire for the Dolphins or falcons or jets...etc!. But when the Big Bad, out of control SEC picks on the little ole nfl. its ' Oh, no; how could a coach leave the nfl for college!'

Re: Bob Griese on College Football Live

O.K. I'm just a simple country boy here and not everyone will agree with me here but let's face it. In Saban's case - Who wants to raise a family in Miami? In Patrino's case - Who wants to live in Atlanta?

Or it could be their wives that didn't like the big city. As the saying goes... " when momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy".

He's an idiot. I hope they don't fire CCC after this season so maybe they'll go 0-16 again next year:biggrin:

You might or might not be right about the coaches not liking Atlanta or Miami, but I believe that you might be very close on one of the reasons that some people are so spiteful and petty regarding Saban's departure from Miami.

I recall reading either an editorial or blog entry where someone was making extremely belittling remarks about Tuscaloosa in comparison to Miami. There are some amazingly bigoted people that believe that no-one in their right mind would want to live anywhere but in a noisy, crowded, blighted urban jungle. To hear these people speak, one would think that civilization and enlightenment disappears after one passes the incorporated limits of large cities.

You'll hear them expound about all the cultural offerings and great entertainment in a city like Miami. Of course, they ignore the fact that few of the denizens of such a city actually have the time to take advantage of them because they are either stuck in gridlock or working every waking hour to be able to afford the higher cost of living.

I can think of a million places i'd rather live than Miami! They can have that place!

I hope they do fire him. I would like to see the media try to spin that. They hammer these coaches that leave before finishing their contracts, but they never criticize the teams(except for us, of course) for firing a coach before their contract runs out.

Re: Bob Griese on College Football Live

1.) There are a lot of people who have an elitist attitude in regards to the NFL. We saw it with Saban and are seeing it again with Petrino. I hate to tell them, but the days of Lombardi and Landry and Shula are over. The coaches no longer have the control in the NFL and in many respects are handcuffed by salarycaps, and highdollar players who the coaches are forced to play. In college football the coaches are the stars, and many coaches in recent years have learned this the hard way. The NFL guys feel snubbed by this notion, but it is the truth. They can't understand why on earth a guy would leave the NFL to coach in college, much less see that it is a better gig.
2.) I have lost all respect for these guys from the 72 Dolphins, who IMO have shown no class whatsoever. Every night they are coming up with reasons to knock the Patriots, while at the same time distancing themselves from the current state of the Dolphin franchise. Mercury Morriss when asked about his Dolphins struggles said "that is not my team". These guys may have won on the field, but they do not act like winners off the field. What happened to showing your class, and wishing them luck? If the Patriots go undefeated it in no way diminishes what the Dolphins did, they are acting like a spoiled only child who is scared of sharing the spotlight.

Re: Bob Griese on College Football Live

Amen about the 72' Dolphins. It was a great season (one the Pats will blow away this year) but popping the cork every time a team who's undefeated gets beat is a little ridiculous. I'm ready for the Pats to quiet them.

Good post Doc!

Re: Bob Griese on College Football Live

Its funny how people (BG) talk about how great don shula is and how much honor he has. Someone should probably ask him why he left Baltimore in the middle of the night heading to miami, and then was penalized by the league for doing so. Oh yea he was still under contract with Baltimore at the time.

OH I forgot about that.
