There’s a world of difference in losing 2 games per year and making the playoffs.
It's amazing how less than a year ago, losing 2 games was considered qualified to be in the playoffs and "only two plays from being undefeated" when it was Alabama.

But when it's Michigan.....I'm told they were approximately the distance from Mercury to Neptune before cheating.

Amazing how that works.

there has to be some kind of penalty for such a purposeful violation that was done by the staff.
yes, there does have to be, and let's not undersell the fact that obviously Michigan or Harbaugh thought that this would help them or they wouldn't have done it in the first place.

on the other hand, the NCAA is a little more than a paper tiger in the first place. The whole damn world owes us for that one.

As for me, I actually believe we were light years away a year ago, even if I hoped we'd sneak in.

Not even remotely comparable. Michigan wasn’t 2 plays away. They were perpetually a 2 loss team under Harbaugh, sort of like how State Penn is.

Michigan was two plays from a one-loss season in 2015.
Michigan was two plays away in 2016 from an undefeated season.
Michigan was one play in the ND game away from a one-loss season in 2018.

Amazing, just a few posts ago, they were a perpetually 3-loss team that was nowhere close to the playoff. Now they're a perpetually 2-loss team that was nowhere close to the playoff.

A few posts from now, I'm sure someone will come up with the idea about how they were so close to losing other games that they were "really" a five-loss team. Or my other personal favorite, "they didn't play nobody," which is apparently true of every team in college football if everyone is telling the truth.

I'm sorry, but this whole "Michigan was terrible, cheated, and then became good" doesn't align with the facts.

No one said they were terrible. They were perpetual under-achievers. There is no denying that. Throw all the stats and obscure facts at me all you want. I don’t care. Perception is reality. And the reality is Michigan (under Harbaugh) was good but not great. Then they cheated and started making the playoffs. It’s not hard to figure out why.

It's a great point, Selma. If they didn't think it was helping, they wouldn't have spent time and money on it. And somebody there had to know there was a risk of being caught and decided the benefits they were getting were worth that risk.

Alabama has a pretty good resume over the Saban years. Over the last 10 years I'd say there's very little comparison between what Bama accomplished and Michigan accomplished. That sustained excellence over time is a very real thing and gives Bama the benefit of the doubt. Not so much, actually very little, for UM.

Given Urban Meyer got suspended for something somebody ELSE did...in all honesty, if this has legs (and apparently it does), Harbaugh needs to be suspended from football for an entire season. At a minimum.

"Jim, tell us how you did it and everyone involved, and we'll let you off with a one-year AJ Hinch/Sean Payton suspension. We find out you lied to us, and you'll be terminated with a five-year show cause. This is your plea bargain, come clean."

If this sign stealing/video taping/espionage was as widespread as most are saying, I don’t see where Harbaugh can built a case for plausible deniability. A couple of folks, you can playoff as “rogue staffers”. But if there was an intricate network of multiple people, then someone will likely talk, pulling the trigger on Harbaugh.
The more people involved, the more difficult it is to keep everyone quiet.
