Mike Ford

espn? hahaha

espn has a reputation for knowing absolutely nothing about recruiting... i think i'd go w/ rivals.. over anybody... all you have to do is watch some vid on ford and i wouldnt care if he was negative a couple stars... this guy is amazing..

this might sound a little biased

but judging from his Senior video on sunshinepreps, he looks more like a 5 star than a 6 out of 10. Playing in Florida's 5A and averaging over 200 yards a game is saying something. He has great cut back ability and his footwork is pheniomenal. What I liked most about the video was his patience and acceleration through a hole. It wasn't the most blazing of speeds, but the way he made it look so easy to get in the open was unreal. I think what is great about this guy is what he did while he has been at Hargrave. I can't remeber the exact yardage, but it was something like an average of 12-14 yards a carry :eek2: That's insane.

That's just my opinion, but I think the kid is for real and that he will hopefully make a HUGE impact at Alabama. More importantly, looks like he'll be running behind some hosses on the offensive line.

Here's some info on Mike Ford's play this year at Hargrave. They don't publish their statistics on their website, so this is the best I could do, grabbing blurbs about Ford in each game's write-up:

About the ESPN rating... If you look closely you will find that all players from prep school or JUCO are rated as a 6.0.

When will we know about Mike Ford's grades and whether he will qualify or not?

the staff is very confident that he will get in. He made all B's this semester so his core GPA should rise. He took the ACT again a week ago. Another semester of B's should do it, regardless of the ACT.

Just an FYI, he really freezes when he takes the ACT. Just one of those things that he puts a lot of pressure on himself to do to get qualified.

If he freaks out over the ACT, how is he going to handle finals?

I have lost all faith in other recruiting rankings besides rivals and scout. ESPN has teams such as Troy and Harvard ranked in the top 25 of their recruiting rankings. That seems ridiculous in my opinion, do they even see what is on their site. Tom Lemming used to be pretty good about following up on players and having good rankings for these guys when it was deserved. However, he is not that reliable anymore.

There's no comparison between an ACT/SAT and regular school finals. I went to school with a guy that had a 4.0 and is currently in Med school and struggled to make a 21 on the test, and I also went to school with a guy who was barely a C student, didnt go to college, and made a 24 on the first try. Some people just have a problem taking standardized tests.

Between the videos, the stats and expectations, I think Ford will be one heavily watched player this fall. Hopefully he'll be greater that expected, would be great to have a one-two punch of Darby and Ford.
