Don't miss the point. Nick's strategy was get the best players. We did that for his entire tenure. When he realized we could not do that anymore, he retired. We do not have the best players now, especially in the trenches on the O and D lines. Coaching is a problem now yes, but Alabama will not be the same as under Saban because we cannot corner the market on talent like we once could.

I disagree. You’re telling me that losses now to Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Michigan, and now FSU is because we don’t have the best players?

That’s laughable at best.

Too early to tell. But the ultimate questions are 1) who could we realistically replace him with that is better and 2) who is going to change the situations off the field that affect Alabama
IDK, but who we have now isn’t the answer. Even the barn was quick to realize Harsin was in over his head. We need to act with the same sense of urgency. This season is gone. We need to rip the bandage off and try again. The only good thing left about this season is my Saturdays are now free. I’m not watching this disaster anymore.

The answer may be down the hall. CNS would have a different outcome. I am now convinced his last year coaching was his best. He got into the four team. Playoff without half the team Karen has now. Beg him to coach one more year hire a replacement when he steps down.

Idk who else you could get. I do think Deboer was a mistake unfortunately. I'm sure we're stuck with him for this year and next though so he'll get an opportunity to prove us wrong.

I just don't know who else is out there that would leave their current job to come here and is also a clear hit.

The thing is… I’ve never been convinced on 2 things that many were. 1) the defense would be exponentially better than last year and 2) Ty Simpson was exponentially better than Milroe.

For #1. For since 22 we have been suckered into believing that Alabama has had the most talented roster ever built. But we haven’t really seen anything substantial outside a SECCG that pretty much everyone now forgets. The defense has been undisciplined since 22 and it has only gotten worse. We really haven’t had a dominant defensive lineman since Quinon Williams and the great defensive players that we have had were more coming for Nick Saban. We have had one of the worst defensive development staffs in the major conferences since 2019. I think if anyone should be truly be questioned for their job it starts with your DL and a LB coach. Then reevaluate after that.

For #2: Ty was okay but okay is a far cry from all the hype his fans have been giving everyone for 3 years going. I personally wish this was his 3rd year starting instead of his 1st game starting but at the same time what I saw at the 23 spring REC scrimmage is still what I see today. Milroe and Simpson were basically two incomplete and different answers to the same question of “who should be the quarterback after Bryce and why”. Personally i think it would have been better for the program for had Saban paid big money for a 3rd option in the spring and not had to deal with the crazy drama we have had to for 3 years. I think Mack and Russell are probably closer to the answer to previous question

Dude is not a bad coach. He just followed a legend. We are everyone's biggest game of the year. Kalen just has never dealt with anything like that. Gonna be a long season of more ups and downs. I think it is us just now realizing what we had which is now gone.
He's in over his head and thats obvious.

Wait, wait, wait. 245 yards, two touchdowns, no turnovers in his first career start and you’re throwing him under the bus? There were some drops as well.

Was Ty perfect? Absolutely not, but he commanded the unit and left a pretty solid base to build on. He doubled his career throws in this game. He should’ve been growing through these pains three years ago.

Now if Ty doesn’t grow from this game, by all means put Russell in and let him grow.

no I’m not throwing him under the bus. I’m saying that he is far more Coker than Joe burrow . Yet his fans constantly act like we would’ve clearly won a national championship by now if he started the last two years. My opinion is still that he like Milroe aren’t nearly the answers that their fans believe they are/were.

I think Simpson will have a good season but i still don’t see the level of hype over him that many see.

Also Mack is the next man up.

DuBose won an SEC title for crying out loud.

He took things as tremendous opportunities, but also very challenging.

DeBoerBose ain't winning an SEC title. His personality just doesn't fit Bama. There's no fire and passion.
Not in any way defending DeBoer here.

But Dubious won his SEC championship:
- with a train wreck conference (MSU had the best overall record and nobody else with <3 losses)
- thanks largely to a fluke muffed punt
- at the same time he LOST to...Louisiana Tech
- largely due to two players he inherited, Shaun Alexander and Chris Samuels

None of the previous head coaches walked in replacing a legend and then watched a huge chunk of the roster leave the program because it wasn't that long ago you had to sit out a year if you transferred.

Losing, in and of itself, of course isn't the real problem. It's the fact the team looks like the 2000 paper tiger. And for those whose memory of the UCLA game that year starts and stops with the Freddie Milons touchdown, don't forget: Alabama actually led that game, 24-21, halfway through the third quarter. Even that didn't happen today.

Ty was fine and I think he will get better especially as he gets more experience but I’ve been telling people that the problems with this team were far bigger than Milroe, and it was a bit unfair to place a majority of the blame of the shortcomings of the past few years on him.

I thought the defense would be better. We were pretty good most of last year and with what we had returning I assumed we would be better than this. Even with the issues vs the run I thought it would be better. I still think we'll have games this season vs different types of teams where our defense will look good.

I was worried Ty was just a jag and that's why he hadn't beat out Milroe. I now think that's mostly true. He definitely has fight in him but he's not going to be a guy like bryce who can cover other flaws.

Agreed. Ty was far from perfect but he didn’t have much help. When your supposedly best player suddenly forgets how to catch the football, it’s not the QB’s fault.

I would not be shocked if we punked Georgia and then lost to Vandy again. Our defensive issues schematically is that if we get got early then there are no adjustments. But the bigger problems are we probably don’t have the right guys there and/or they aren’t being developed

I’ve seen 3 closed scrimmages with Ty and Milroe and walked away with the same conclusion each time…These both are massive downgrades from our run with Tua, Mac, and Bryce, and they both have strengths and weaknesses opposite of the other. Neither was the answer despite how many of their fan clubs try to act like they are. I know people have already written off Mack but I have a feeling that he might be the guy that becomes the guy. Russell is unreal but very raw. I think there is alot of faith in Mack by the staff though.

But my opinion is still that we should have paid Van Dyke or UNC’s quarterback what they wanted in 23 to Atleast have a viable experienced guy on staff to compete.
