Mike, Mike, Mike, & Kalen?

All that crap about the team being fully bought in and being hungry, and “the disrespect will be dealt with accordingly” and how we had the best OL in the country…a bunch of hot air. I’m so done.
I remember the Pancake Posse. And I am suffering from PTSD now.

Don't miss the point. Nick's strategy was get the best players. We did that for his entire tenure. When he realized we could not do that anymore, he retired. We do not have the best players now, especially in the trenches on the O and D lines. Coaching is a problem now yes, but Alabama will not be the same as under Saban because we cannot corner the market on talent like we once could.
We had better talent than the teams that beat us. Every. Single. One.

It's the first game of the season, and FSU had this pegged as their Super Bowl, and we had 2 key injuries.

DeBoer will right the ship and Bama will be fine.
Do you recall that Saban held out key players from scrimmage year after year. Did either one of these players need scrimmage for experience? How many games did CNS enter where the opposing team had prepared for the game all year and how many of those did he lose? This coaching staff in no way has a game plan to compete in the SEC. Most people on here would agree that there is an increased likelyhood that this team will get boat raced at home by an SEC opponent as we experienced in our long trek in the wilderness prior to CNS.

The dark days of the early 2000s are upon us again i am afraid.
Recruits are gonna stop buying in to " The Bama standard" or whatever of it is left.

I’m going to bring up three things regarding Deboer’s personality. First, the fact that it was pretty obvious it would be a notable contrast between him and Saban. Second, the fact we were the only school not to have a transfer out since Spring. Third, our proactive assumption that in the new NIL/portal era, you were going to have to have someone to balance egos in this new “players era” and be a little softer at the right times to keep team chemistry.

Based on the evidence at hand, Deboer is being successful as what we assumed college ball was going to need in the new landscape. However, it’s not going to take long to prove that assumption wrong if hard traditional coaching isn’t still the game prep/gameday rule of the land. Maybe that kind of duality is hard to pull off genuinely.

Whether this team can come home and find its true mettle, should that exist, will quickly determine if we simply have “the guy after The Guy” or something more.

Either way, he was stacked up with an arsenal of tools that none of the previous Mikes had, particularly Shula - and Price unofficially doesn’t count.

I’m not ready to write DeBoer off just yet, but if you want a name that, to me, would be top 3 choice, it would be Brent Key.

The fact that he was won at an almost Saban-like level everywhere else he's been. Actually, if you only look look at full seasons, he's never won less than 9 games, something Saban did 7 times. Now, I'm not saying he is, or ever will be as good as, Saban. But he's not Gerry DiNardo, either.

That is what certain people bring up but where has he done it at a big time program against great competition game in and game out? Or long term? The product he has put out here has been horrible as far as actual schemes and techniques not just one offs first year stuff. His baby the offense has been bad and that’s concerning. I get he has won but the actual coaching part while here has been horrible

He was more successful, sooner, at UW than Saban was at MSU, each one's second Division 1 coaching job. I thought he was the best choice to replace Saban, and I was happy with the hire. I'm not willing to call him a bust after one game of the season.

It doesn’t matter what he did vs Saban because they are different eras and Saban also had better NFL coaching experience so it’s not comparable. It’s not one game. He’s what 4-5 record the last 9 FBS games and got out coached in those with a team playing poorly. One of those games lost was to a horrible OU team that had basically walk ons starting and the playoffs on the line. He did not make an o line coach change or DC or DL. That’s concerning alone. It’sa bad trend at best. I’m not saying he’s a bust yet but I’m not going to argue for him. Hoping that next week shows improvements. Wisconsin probably will tell a lot.

There will never be another Nick Saban, we can all agree on that. We just have a differing opinion on whether DeBoer can be successful at Bama. I think he will, you think he won't. Time will tell who is right
I do hope that he has survival instinct enough to turn it up several notches and the staff does a lot of self examination and reviewing what successful teams are doing on offense and defense in the SEC. My thought has been that successful coaches particularly in the NFL are deeply involved with their coaches in making in game adjustments. A number of them are actively involved in play calling. Giving DeBoer his due I thought that his model of being a GM of Chairman of the Board could work. It clearly doesn't. He has to change and quickly. I actually hope that he does.

I don't know who he resembles or if he even resembles any of our past failures but one thing is for sure, he can not continue to set futility records and remain head coach at Alabama. He's already set too many dubious records but considering what he followed he gets a pass on a few. Unfortunately it seems like every week he's setting another and they're stacking up at an alarming rate.
