I'm driving in from Texas for homecoming and by God I'm standing the whole game and yelling as much as possible. I'll be bringing my dad and my 8year old. It will be my son's first live game. So if you are in section S-5 and row 46 you might be right behind me....if it is going to bother you. ...you better move. I'm 6'2 amd 365lbs :eek2: I'm not moving :biggrin2:R.T.R.

Do you cover your eyes on the forth of July? Do you sit in silence when you go to a concert?
I really don't understand your logic here. Why would I cover my eyes on the 4th of July because I don't stand up and yell during an entire football game? What does one have to do with the other? At a 4th of July celebration, I watch the fireworks. At a 'Bama game, I watch and support our team. That's what I'm paying for.

The point is, that on Saturday at BDS when the Tide is playing it should not appear that we are all having tea time.
I just don't think there is wrong way or a right way to support our team. Scream the entire game if you want. I think that's great. Just don't think you are a better fan than others, or that others don't care if they aren't doing exactly what you are doing.

I am sure that you are a true Bama fan... why else would you bother joining this site? Just saying that I too question the gameday sitters.... if you bought tickets to see the tide play and they score... what gives?
I do cheer when our team scores, but that is different from standing and yelling the entire game. Look, I have no problem with what you are doing except for you thinking I don't care as much as you and when your standing the whole game is keeping other people behind you from seeing anything (honestly, if I were behind you, I would have no problem standing too so I could see. I have been to games where I wanted to stand, but had some older people behind me so I decided not to block their view and still had a great time because I was there doing what I came for - to watch our team play and enjoy a victory).

I was just pointing out that, no, you dont have to plaster an American flag on your car to be American. However, you probably celebrate the forth of July by shooting fireworks, or watching them.
As for gameday... I don't think I am better than people who sit. Cheer how you want. We are all supporting the same team. It does frustrate me, however, to see fellow fans sit and clap when it is time to celebrate.

ahem...

I like your idea. I wish you the best of luck with "Mike's Maniacs"??? May not want to order 3 years of shirts in advance with that title, however.

As a person once involved with Yell Crew, a few folks with a ton of passion, still don't change a ton of people with apathy. You've got your work cut out for you...nevertheless, I hope you succeed.

Don't look for the folks in control of the jumbotron to show you any love...clueless.

Keep on Truckin',

People who tell other people to sit down...simply suck.

Actually, a lot of people make fun of the teams and stadiums that have to put "Quiet Please" up on the big screens when the home team is on offense. Smart fans should know enough to get quiet without having to be told like children.

I wouldn't trade our fans for the world (especially "outside" the stadium as someone said), but I do wish the in-game fan involvement was a bit more intense.

What about the

RECRUITS??? How do you think they make their decision on what university they will attend? I personally know a young man that signed with Arkansas simply becuase of the atmosphere. He is the #1 ranked QB coming out of HS and could have signed with anybody. Let me say it again...he signed with Arkansas becuase of the atmosphere created by the fans! With schools like Michigan, ND, Miama, FSU and Southern Cal recruiting him very aggressively, it was the stadium atmosphere that prompted him to stay in state. Trust me, it was a hard decision but the fans/atmoshpere was the final factor in his decision.

These young recruits don't think like old-farts. Get off your butt and yell hard the entire game. Don't worry about the guy next to you. He probably wants to yell too but is worried about offending someone. Our future may depend on it! Roll Tide!

P.S. to Bojo: I have no doubt that you love Alabama football but would advise that you not make the trip down to LSU!

People too scared to yell like a maniac at a Bama game are comparable to people that are scared to sing in church. They are too worried about what other people think about them. Shouldn't we really be worried about what the One/people we're singing/yelling for thinks of us instead of the people around us?

On the other hand, if you just don't like to yell, don't yell. However, if you WANT to yell, but feel uncomfortable doing it... EH! FHU-GHED-DA-BOU-DIT! You only live once! Let it rip!

Finally, someone who understands. Maybe the crowd noise does not have a direct effect on the events in the game (although I think it does, especially on defense...have you people never noticed our defensive players pumping their arms trying to get the crowd noise up, especially on third downs? Ever thought that they would like our help trying to addle the opposing QB? Furthermore, ever noticed Brodie trying to quiet the idiots who cheer when we're on offense?) But I digress...even if you say the crowd does not have a direct impact on the outcome of the game, it definitely does have an impact on recruiting. Why do you think they sit the recruits up against the fence beside the student section/MDB? Even if our students aren't always loud and they cheer at the wrong times and they like they wave, what the recruits see is 10,000+ kids on their feet for 3-4 hours solid.

Wow...so I'm watching ESPN College Gameday right now, and apparently the AD at Michigan sent an e-mail to students asking them not to stand. I do believe a riot would ensue if Coach Moore tried that. Here's to hoping he doesn't get any visionary ideas like that...

Wait, I'm confused.

I had always thought the "stand up yelling for most of the game" reflex was an involuntary reaction built in genetically in all Bama fans. I live in south Florida and don't get to go to games, now. I have arthritic hips that don't let me do much either but I find that I'm standing, yelling at the TV or the computer constantly (whichever contraption is bringing me my Tide game that day). I don't seem to be the one controling the reaction, either, it just happens. I had assumed this was the case with all Alabama fans. Are you telling me I was wrong?
