Both programs have had success in recent years playing in the Big 12 with good to mediocre success. My question is now that their a part of the SEC will their fanbases be ok with winning sometimes just 6 and 7 games a year? How long before they start asking for another coach? Thoughts?

A&M has been a .500 or so team for several years and just replaced their coach. I would think they are pleased with this season so far and fully expect to be in the middle of the pack for a while.

Missouri has been winning more in the past several years, and they've clearly had a rude awakening so far in the SEC. But Pinkel is safe as long as they make a bowl game most years. Seems to me that football just isn't a real big deal for Missouri the way it is for the Big Boys of the SEC. That's why they're not as good a fit for this conference as A&M.

Just my 2 cent opinion.

Pinkel is so aloof and goofy that he'll be be canned soon as Mizzou came into this first year so cocky but are being made to look the fool. Mid to bottom dweller is what they were hoping to change from the TX and OK school games but here they are living the same existence in a league where it only gets worse unless you have something positive to recruit with. aTm can pull themselves up a notch sooner IMO.

EDIT: The more I read, I don't think Mizzou even cares that they have football, let alone what league they play in. I hope Kentucky and Tenn can rise up and make them ofor in the SEC this year.

Sorry you feel we came in "cocky". Not the impression I have gotten. I think most thought we had a chance to win 3-4 conference games. No one anticipated all the injuries to our offense, many before the season started. We are really struggling to move the ball and score points, not only against SEC teams, but even our non-con games. This really a bizarre year for us. We are used to having a solid offense. This year has just been one of those years.

To your second point, not true. Not true at all. However, I will say that the loss to Vandy last week was an absolute buzzkill to fan enthusiasm for this team. Fans were stoked for this year and the season has been a disaster. Fans are frustrated with Pinkel. Frustrated with Yost. Frustrated with the players. The fact that we had 70k show up for the garbage we are fielding this year in a downpour against a team "fixing" to whoop us says something I think about the appetite our fan base has for a good football program.

If you were not aware, we sold a record number of football season tickets for this season (50k), and secured 200 million in donations to upgrade our football and a few other facilities. By 2015, we will have a stadium with 85k capacity and will be on par with the big boys in the SEC.

You guys have a great football program and team. The athleticism on the field yesterday was as good as I have seen on Faurot field, and I have seen some damn good teams visit Columbia, including National Champ caliber teams like the 97 Huskers, OU, Texas, Ohio St and K-state in the late 90's. We got whooped, plain and simple. We are better than this. This team just isn't right this year. The injuries, the QB play, the coaching, the chemistry, have all been putrid. But I can promise you we will get better. I am hearing big money donors are putting a lot of pressure on the AD to force Pinkel to make changes to his staff.

Unlike the 80's and 90's, which we Mizzou fans term the "dark days" of Mizzou football, Missouri football is front and center on the sports landscape now. It has helped that the rams and chiefs have been basically terrible for a decade. People are following them, interested in them. Hopefully we can turn the corner sooner rather than later.

For the fans that visited Columbia, hope you enjoyed yourself in spite of the cruddy weather. Good luck the rest of the year. Looks like you are headed for a showdown with Oregon.

It's not that your team is performing badly, it's simply that they aren't built for this sort of punishing conferences. Sheldon Richardson is a nice player, but he simply doesn't have the size and bulk to make a game-long impact. Spread offenses don't really work in the SEC like they do in other conferences. Sure, Tebow and Newton were successful, but they were also 250# freaks of nature who could run with power like Eddie Lacy. Against Georgia y'all were able to hang because Georgia is Georgia. They are soft and undisciplined. South Carolina was a better facsimile of what you were going to face yesterday, and we all know how that game turned out. Recruiting and a change of philosophy are going to be required if Missouri is going to have a chance in the SEC.
We don't play "old man" football...
We play grown man football.

Thanks for the post. No doubt y'all would be much different if your OL didn't have so many injuries. Best of luck he rest of the way. Mizzou fans are probably the nicest to rival fans in the SEC.

MizzouFan,
I think a majority on these boards agree with you and understand your situation. It will take a little time but the enthusiasm and support of your fan base will make you a great addition to the SEC. Welcome.

I don't disagree with anything you say, we definitely need to adjust our offensive philosophy to compete week in and week out in this league. But our offense stinks this year. Just flat out terrible. We struggled to score on offensive drives against NE LA State (we had 3 punt returns and 2 Def TDs in that game) and UCF. The spread requires a high-level QB playing at a high level and WRs that catch the ball. It worked when we had Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin. It worked at times when we had Blaine Gabbert and Denario Alexander. But Franklin has never really developed and Berk is way to green and neither have a legit offensive weapon to get the ball to. I wish we would get away from recruiting the scat backs and morph toward more of a power running game.

Mizzou will grow tired of playing in the East and will be wishing they were in the Big 10. That was their preference but they didn't get the offer.

I wonder if Notre Dame had said they wanted to join the Big Ten would they have taken Missouri as a 14th team. They are a better fit for that league from a geographic and cultural standpoint. I think of them as more of a midwestern state than a southern one. It would also have been a good spot for their wrestling program. It was a marriage of convenience for both sides. We needed a 14th member and they wanted out of the Big XII and neither of us could find anyone else.

These aren't knocks, just an observation. I think they'll fit in eventually, but remember the SEC has an exit fee of zero. I would not be surprised to see them in the Big Ten one day.

Not a chance. We love being in the SEC. Also, a little inside info for you. It is pretty common knowledge among posters on the Mizzou premium boards, thanks to insiders that know Curators that the Big 10 thing didn't go down the way the media have portrayed it. The Big 10 tentatively offered us to join in 2010. It seemed like a 'done deal' and word actually went down to the AD and coaches to prepare for a move. Problem is, when Delaney then presented the conditions to our Admin, they required "Junior Membership" (i.e. 50% revenue for 5 yrs). Our Admin balked. Word got to Nebraska who promptly took it.

In hindsight, that was a blessing. Being in the BIG is already starting to hurt Nebraska football recruiting. Their Texas pipeline is drying up. Texas kids want to play where their family and friends can see them play. While the SEC is tougher than the BIG, it only marginally hurts our Texas recruiting while opening up the entire southeast as well as Midwest kids that want to play in the SEC, but stay close to home. Just in the past few days, we have signed a solid 3 star QB out of Georgia, a 3-star DE out of Pensacola, and a 4-star DT out of Illinois. Not sure if we ever get to the top of this league, but we will be a formidable upper mid tier team in the next 2-3 yrs.

Who out of Pensacola?

Interesting post. I agree with you Mizzou, your program will improve and get better as a result of being in the SEC. Pinkel will either make the needed adjustments to your recruiting and style of play or I think your administration will find someone else that will. The things you've said regarding the capital improvements planned and huge influx of donations are true. I think you guys will eventually be a very competitive football program in our conference, it just might take a couple of yrs to get there. You are already there in basketball.

Great Job Mizzou, came with passion to the defense of your team!!!! That is what this conference is all about ! I guess some Bama fans fail to realize Mizzou has won 48 games the last 5 years.
