I think there are two names that warrant serous consideration for that job.

Gary Patterson - defensive minded coach who has shown ability to field explosive offense.

Al Golden - I think this guy can coach. I don't think he can be judged on what he has done at the U. He was sold a bill of goods there and it's a shuffle step from being a dumpster fire.

Outside of that I think Todd Graham would be a good fit too.

As much a like CJM I just don't he is ready for the SEC yet. Other than those mentioned no one really impresses on the college level.
Patterson has had opportunities to leave TCU in the past and hasn't. I think he enjoys being TCU's version of Bill Snyder - brought them from irrelevance to relevance and into a Power 5 conference. He can do no wrong in the eyes of TCU. He wouldn't have that luxury at UF.

I think Foley would stay away from Grahm, given his reputation as a job hopper. After the last few coaches had relatively short tenures, I think Foley will look for someone who may be around for a while.

Golden is an interesting choice. He's a good coach, he's got recruiting connections established in Florida already and he may feel that he was mislead about just how much crud Miami was going to land in. I think he'd be a pretty good hire for Florida.

I have a new found respect for Mushchamp after his termination. He seems a lot more relaxed and loose. Don't count them out against FSU. He took responsibility and the line about 'wouldn't change a thing , well , you would get fired again' was classic.

An NFL defensive coordinator job would be much better career move for Muschamp than trying to claw back up the college coaching ranks.
I agree. DC at the collegiate level wouldn't help his career at this point. He would be better in the NFL or a HC at a lower tier program .

I expect that FSU v. Florida may be a close one, but in general I think it's less any newfound ability on the part of Muschamp than it is FSU's continued struggles against bad teams. Florida isn't good, obviously, but there isn't much of a reason to think that the FSU struggles we've seen against the likes of Louisville, Okie State, ND, NC State, and Miami will suddenly abate just because the Gators show up.

I was saying that it sounds like to me he might consider NFL and other lower mid-level.. doesn't mean I actually said he's interested.. but I get your point. I think in my opinion, He should check out NFL as DC, or go somewhere outside SEC to get his confidence up again as HC, but Depsite what everyone said about him going to Auburn, I find that unlikely...
That says he won't go to USC. It doesn't say anything about him "seriously considering the NFL" like you said. It says he'll have job opportunities in college and the NFL, but doesn't mention his interest in either.

My UF-grad nephew reminded us Sunday that Zook was carried off the field after beating FSU a couple of games after he was fired. Interesting to ponder the parallels, huh?

I know I'd laugh for a very long time if UF caught lightning in a bottle & knocked off the Noles.

It's also the opinion of a recruiting blogger who cites “reliable sources” as his proof. May be true, may not be true, but this is not something that should be seen as “reliable”.

Honestly I would be shocked if Muschamp had already made up his mind on the what and where of his future just a few days after being told he was being released. I can’t imagine someone already having his future mapped out 72 hours after getting canned, especially when he has two games left to coach.

Muschamp knew this was out there. He had to know he was likely to be fired weeks before it happened , I wouldn't be supprised if plan b was started long ago thru his agent at least.

While you might be right, I doubt it. He has probably been totally focused on his team and the season. He knows that he has a huge contract to fall back on. No need to rush and no reason to panic.

I sure wouldn't. I'd take my buyout payments and take my time to make sure I made the right descision.
