Game Thread: Navy vs Notre Dame (NBC 8/26 @ 1230p CT) and Others

A few observations-
1) ND is improved. Maybe a 10+ win team. Helps when you have Chris Weinke 2.0 @ QB.
There's a lot to be said for that Weinke comparison. Hartman does look good, obviously... but, what starting QBs don't improve over time. He's basically gotten better each year since 2018, that's a heck of a lot of runway. He's almost the same age as Jalen Hurts.

I say this to make a point I've seen mentioned elsewhere, the knock on Buchner that it doesn't say much about him if Hartman beat him out. Hartman is four years older! At the age Buchner is now, Hartman had 4TDs and 2 INTs for the season.

That’s what I meant by Chris Weinke 2.0. He was in his late 20s when he finished at FSU due to playing baseball. Don’t see a lot of guys do that anymore. Used to be a few of them

A few observations-

3) Like what Clark Lea is doing @ Vandy. They might get bowl eligible this year.
Agree about Clark Lea. He has credibility and likes to talk about process (in the pre-kickoff inteview last night he referred to the rain delay as "an interruption of process"). He recruits well by Vanderbilt standards. However, looking at Vanderbilt's schedule, it's easy to see a 2-0 start and a 3-9 final record.
  • Vanderbilt beat Hawaii by 7 touchdowns last year, in Hawaii, but by only 1 in Nashville last night. Has Hawaii improved that much, or has VU regressed?
  • While I wouldn't necessarily predict an 0-8 SEC season, if you take each game individually it's hard to pick any with a 1 in 3 chance of winning. Of course, UF and UK would've said the same thing about VU last year...
