New Rules for Mississippi State's Cowbells

I can understand and share the disdain for the things. The worst noise I have ever heard was underneath the stadium after our last loss there.

However, I have never been treated badly there, just what I consider good natured ribbing.

I have experienced more problems with booze getting dumped on me and bottles tossed from fans of both sides there and for that matter everywhere. The same policy exists against bottles and no one seems to be able to stop them. True it is different that the cowbells are obvious, but I would rather they stay if it meant I wouldn't leave the stadium drenched in mixed beverages.

Stricklin, on cowbell compromise skeptics: “Let’s prove them all wrong” | Mississippi State sports

Just an update for those interested. The Mississippi State AD sent out a letter asking the fans to "prove everyone wrong" and handle the terms given to them (only ringing the bells during stoppages of play; they can't even ring them before the play starts, etc.). I really think it will be interesting to see if the fans actually do what they're supposed to because it seems fairly clear that they will be completely banned if they don't.

As many of you may know, my girlfriend is a Miss State grad. Her sorority plans an outing to at least one home and and one away game each year. And I get dragged to most of them and end up sitting by myself or with the other unknown men waiting for the henfest to end.
But i have learned that Miss State has no sport enthusiasm other than the cowbell. It links all the State fans to one another because they are persecuted for a tradition that goes back to the 1930s.
I could forget the camera, I could forget the food, but god help me if i forget the cowbell.
We don't even take the cowbell into the stadium but it is a symbol that connects one State fan to another.
Most of her friends know I am a Bama fan but I have fell in love with Miss State and mainly because of the few state fans and the connection with the cowbell.
So twice a year, I guess I will have to "bring em and ring em" because i know who where the firesuit in our relationship. (and it is not me)
but she does go to about half the Bama games with me so she is not that bad.

this reminds of the old JP Games of the Week. It was the only time I'd hear the cowbells, since msu rarely makes a televised game any later than that. I'd always have to turn down the volume because that god-awful cowbell ringing would make my hangover headache 10 times worse. And the audio was so bad on the JP games that it seemed like the cowbells were the only noise in the stadium.
