Nice effort by the Tide, hard to beat refs and a Top 5 team in the same night...

That was bad and someone should make it a point to say so. Those refs were just awful. May sound like sour grapes but it's been a while since I've seen so many questionable calls. Apparently playing defense warrants a whistle. Doesn't work both ways unfortunately.

Wasn't the officials

Goergetown simply knew how to win and we did not. We have no idea how to run an offense and even less of an idea of what a good shot is, but that may stem from the fact that we have no offense. We played a little better on defense, but not good enough to win. We're just not very good from top to bottom.

We were just outplayed on both ends tonight. There was a little pushing and shoving going on Both Ways. They let the teams play instead of the refs deciding the game. I have seen some bad officiating before, but must say this is not one of those times.

I don't think the refs played much of a role in this game. Our kids played hard but didn't rebound well the second half, continued to miss free throws, took very questionable and quick shots, and with the exception Hendrix and Riley, couldn't find the basket. Wondered why Alonzo Gee was sitting on the bench for much of the last 10 minutes of the game. Maybe Mark will give us an explanation.

We couldn't shoot or rebound in the second half. Nor did we do much to pressure G'town's defense.

Still, the kids played awfully hard. Effort, at least, seems to be vastly improved.

Richard's block toward the end of the game took my breath away. He's quickly becoming a star and a leader.

It seems that in settings such as last night where you have multiple games to get in (back to backs, tournaments, etc.) the refs tend to call the game a lot looser, perhaps to keep things somewhat close to schedule (this could be a figment of my imagination but it seems that way). In some ways I feel like the loose officiating helped us last night because Georgetown is deeper than we are inside. However, on the flip side, it seemed like Hibbert got away with a good bit inside as well, and when he was in we couldn't rebound.

I got in with 8 minutes to play and Bama was just mounting a comeback. Nice effort, but really some bad shots by Bama. They did get the 3 pointer to take the lead, but that was gone not before too long. Tough loss against one of the top teams in the country.

What hurt us last night was our inexperience from the PG position, missed free throws, and badly timed substituions. Torrance down the stretch was awful. Granted he hasn't been a position to lead the team before, but Hollinger has been. I'm not trying to say that Hollinger deserves to play, but Gottfried knows that Hollinger has played in "big games." He could've come off the bench, calmed the team down and run our offense. I noticed a few times last night that Tubbs would have to motion to Coleman to go once he set the screen and Coleman was still standing there. Hopefully, Riley can find his shot, because last night he was hot and cold. Also, Riley hitting 1-3 free throws after taking a dumb 3-point shot and Coleman shooting 25% from the line. If you're in college you should be able to hit free throws, maybe not automatically, but you should shoot better than 33% and 25%. Yeah, Coleman's a post player and not known for free throw shooting, but if you're a post player you need to practice shooting free throws, because teams are going to hack you and send you to the line. Lastly, I'm not exactly sure why Gee didn't re-enter the game until about 2:30 left in the 2nd half. He's one of our better athletes and he needed to be in there. I know they had Torrance, Tubbs, Riley, Hendrix, and Coleman in. And that you couldn't justify bringing in another SG for your PG and not have anyone you can trust to bring the ball up, but Gottfried should've been trying to get Gee into the game sooner.
