Nick Saban Retiring? It's Official .. the Goat is gone

I have always thought Saban's retirement would be a drop the mic type event. So far that's what it has been...

Many wondered if the NIL and transfer portal would push Saban into retirement. Apparently it did. The article explicitly expresses Saban had grown tired of both.

I’m currently rewatching the 2009 SECC against the fighting Tebows. All time Alabama leading scorer Lee Tiffin just drilled a 48yd FG right down the middle to put Bama on top with first blood, 3-0. I bet nobody will break that record. 🥲

Sources told Low that Saban had grown increasingly frustrated with "what college football had turned into. He's all about team and building a team and developing players, and now the only thing that seems to matter is who can get what in the NIL and who can get the biggest deal."

Saban started coaching at a time when the HC had more influence over the players and players were more loyal to the team. In recent seasons Saban , along with other coaches spent a lot of time recruiting players who get ticked off if they don't start and say "I'm outta here!" so I guess Saban got to the point where he thought "Is it really worth all this time traveling across the country to get players who leave if they don't get the starting job?"

Sorry if I offended you, but I took it hard. I love the Saban family and I will surly miss them.
btw: I'm nearly 77 years old and I'm quite old enough to know the difference between retiring and dying. I retired in 2008 and I miss some of the guys I worked with every day.

Since half of Tuscaloosa is already named for Coach Bryant, given what Saban has done not just for the football program but for the university and the city, maybe just rename the whole place Sabanville........
 
I’m glad it was the game changing that led him to this and not ungrateful fans. When his daughter tweeted be careful what you wish for it felt very ominous
 
I knew this day would come eventually. I'm still in shock, regardless. So far 2024 has brought me covid, the shut-down of my employer, and now the loss of our GOAT. I really hope the rest of the year is an improvement.

Best of luck and Roll Tide, coach. I hope you enjoy your retirement. We will miss you terribly, but we thank you for the time you gave us. What an amazing ride it has been.

There are stupid fans in every fan base, but the ones that didn't realize we've had a "once in a lifetime" sort of coach were/are a special kind of stupid. We've been super lucky to have had two such coaches in my lifetime. Good coaches may come and go (and hopefully we see one come our way), but CNS really is the GOAT. Period.

Almost-ish makes me kinda almost indifferent to who we hire (as long as they’re competent) bc how do you follow that? Like an open mic’er following Chris rock

side note I sincerely hope he’s getting his own wing at the Bryant museum and they have got to call
It Saban field. Bare minimum
