The Crimson Tide surrendered four runs in the ninth in the walkoff defeat
5/4/2025
NASHVILLE, TN – Leading 7-5 entering the bottom of the ninth, No. 18 Alabama baseball saw No. 15 Vanderbilt score four runs in the final frame, as the Crimson Tide were topped 9-7 in the walkoff loss on Sunday at Hawkins Field. The defeat drops Alabama to 36-12 overall and 13-11 in Southeastern Conference play.
The Tide offense was paced by Bryce Fowler, who finished with a team-high three hits in five at-bats, including a double and an RBI. Garrett Staton opened the scoring for the Tide, as his three-run home run in the fourth gave Alabama its initial lead. Will Hodo also homered as part of his 1-for-3 effort, connecting on a two-run shot. Kade Snell was 1-for-2 with a triple and three walks, while Coleman Mizell managed an RBI single as part of the Tide's four-run sixth.
Zane Adams gave his side a quality start in the series finale, scattering five hits and two runs over 6.0 innings. The sophomore southpaw struck out five while issuing just two walks in his 12th start of the spring. Hagan Banks allowed three runs over 1.2 frames with Matthew Heiberger striking out the only man he faced in the eighth. Carson Ozmer (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season after being responsible for four runs in the ninth.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"Tough way to finish the weekend after playing so well the last two days. I thought our offense was tremendous grinding out (Connor) Fennell, as he had elite stuff early today. A 7-2 lead with two outs in the eighth and your guys on the mound is exactly where we wanted to be. Unfortunately, Vandy came and grabbed the game with a couple of homers late. I love these boys and wouldn't trade them for anything. We will flip the ball right back to those guys next weekend and they will do what they do. Big one against Troy on Tuesday, then our final series of the regular season at The Joe this weekend. We will be ready."
