Honest complaint….the past few years the pass interference calls are a staple of our defense. Why is that? Our DB’s never look for the ball and it has cost us more than once, including last week. Just curious as to why we think that is a habit with us?

The backs are taught to stay “in phase”, as close to the receiver as possible. They are then taught to read the receiver’s cues as to if/when the ball gets close so they can turn and defend the pass. The idea being if you turn to look for the ball too early you will slow down and the receiver can get separation.

Offenses countered this by waiting until the last second to catch the ball. This results in a lot more flags.
